She knew exactly why the call was coming in—Tara, obviously. Without a second thought, she hung up and shot back a quick text.
[If this is about Tara, don’t ask me. I can’t help and I won’t.]
Rosie saw the message and practically tossed her phone across the bed, fuming. “Unbelievable! Reese doesn’t even pretend to care that Tara’s in trouble. Now she won’t answer my calls either!
“I know she’s mad at us, but she can’t just ignore Tara’s situation!”
She glanced over at Dylon, who was lost in thought, and gave him a shove. “I told you ages ago, we should’ve sent her back to the Meyer family or let social services handle it. But no, you insisted we keep her. After all these years, what do we get? Nothing but ungratefulness!
“I can’t sleep, Dylon. I keep picturing Tara, pregnant and stuck at the agency. What are we supposed to do? Did Zach say anything?”
Dylon nearly slid off the bed from her push. Regaining his balance, he looked at Rosie. “Relax. Zach said he’d sort it out. Tara’s having his baby—he’s not going to walk away.
“But Reese worries me. I heard Sebastian is treating her differently now. She’s even bold enough to argue with him these days.
“What scares me is if she ever decides to hold us accountable for shorting Ramos Corporation. If that happens, we’re done for.”
“So what do we do?” Rosie snapped, anxiety clear in her voice. “Should we get Zach to help?”
“And from what I’ve heard, Leslie’s from Bridger Lake too. She might even be Sebastian’s ex from before he got married.
“If we can find a way to get close to Leslie, maybe she’ll say something to Sebastian on our behalf.
“As long as Sebastian stays out of it, Reese is powerless in Bridger Lake. She can’t touch us.”
Rosie’s panic started to fade, replaced by a hint of excitement. She paused, thinking it through. “Wait—a couple days from now there’s a business gala. I heard Leslie will be there. That’s our chance to meet her.”
“If she really is Sebastian’s ex, she probably still holds a grudge against Reese for messing things up. Maybe we can get her to nudge Sebastian into turning his back on Reese again.”
