The Doormat Wife’s Ultimate Glow-Up novel Chapter 214

Why hasn’t Reese called yet?

Just then, the phone rang, its sharp tone cutting through the silence.

Sebastian’s eyes lit up. He didn’t even bother to check the screen before answering.

“Mr. Ratcliff.”

It was Ashton, his lawyer.

“Sir… your wife… she tore up the agreement. She said she’d rather be taken away by the police than sign it…

“She also said she and you—”

“Enough!”

Sebastian’s anger flared, but beneath it, there was something else. Something sharp and cold that he didn’t want to admit was fear.

Robbie stood nearby, watching his dad closely, not sure if what he’d done earlier was brave or just a big mistake.

“Should we arrange bail for Mrs. Ratcliff?” Ashton asked, his voice careful, tiptoeing around every word. He knew couples fought and made up all the time. He didn’t want to risk his job over this.

“Leave her where she is,” Sebastian said, taking a long, steadying breath. “When she comes to her senses, we’ll talk about bail.

“Besides, I don’t believe she killed my grandfather, and the police won’t do anything to her. Let her spend some time inside and think things through. Without the Ratcliff family, she’s nothing.”

Later that evening, the police showed up at the hospital. After flashing their badges, they started asking about what happened between Reese and Sebastian’s grandfather.

Jane perked up right away. “Officers, this is about Mr. Ratcliff. You have to look into it properly.”

“His assistant said Reese was the only one who went into his room before it happened.”
