“Otherwise... you know exactly what’ll happen.”
Jane squeezed the little black box in her hand, her face tight and pale as she watched Leslie walk away down the hall.

The next morning, Reese was on her way to BlackOak when her phone rang. It was the front desk.
“Reese, Mrs. Ratcliff just arrived. She says it’s urgent. Should I send her up?”
Reese frowned. The court date was tomorrow. Just one more day and she’d finally be free from Sebastian. Why was Jane showing up now? Was it about the shares, or something else?
She paused for a second, then said quietly, “Okay. I’ll be right there.”
Half an hour later, Reese pushed open the door to the research team’s office. Jane was sitting stiffly on the couch, clutching a folder.
Jane managed a strained smile. “Reese. Morning.”
Reese’s eyes landed on the folder. Her voice was cool. “What do you want?”
Jane handed over the documents. “I know you want to divorce Sebastian. If you sign this agreement, I’ll convince him to go through with it. After that, you’ll never have to deal with us again.”
Reese took the folder and skimmed through it. The first clause jumped out; she wasn’t allowed to transfer her shares to anyone else. Reese let out a cold laugh.
Then she saw the second clause: only Robbie could inherit the shares. Her patience snapped.
“I’m not signing this. Those shares were left to me. I’ll decide what to do with them.”
Jane’s face fell. She was only here because Leslie told her to come, and this agreement was just a way to test Reese’s reaction. She wanted to make sure Reese wouldn’t ever team up with Matthew, but she hadn’t expected Reese to be so direct.
Jane stepped forward and grabbed Reese’s arm as she turned to leave.
