"Reese… Reese!
"Give me back my baby! Give me back my child!"
Tara clung to the sheets, one hand pressed hard against her chest, gasping for breath. Her eyes were wild, burning with pure hatred.
This was all Reese’s fault.
If not for her, Tara could have talked things out with Zach, and chose a surgery. At least she wouldn’t have been forced to take such a huge risk or use the baby as a way to trap Reese. If she hadn’t been pushed this far, her life wouldn’t have fallen apart like this.
It was all Reese’s fault. Because of her, Tara had lost her chance to be a mom.
“Tara, please, don’t do this. You are scaring me…”
Rosie was terrified seeing her daughter like this. She grabbed Tara’s shaking hand, her voice soft and desperate. “Listen, Zach hates Reese now. He’s going to marry you, I promise.”
Tara turned, staring at her mother’s swollen, red eyes. Her own voice was raw, almost gone, and her face was full of hopelessness.
“Mom, my baby’s gone. I can’t ever have kids again…
“Even if I go overseas and get a surrogate, it won’t be my child, not really.
“And Zach… he’ll have more children someday, but none of them will be mine. How is he ever going to look at me the same way?
“Mom, it’s over. My whole life is over. And it’s all because of Reese. All of it.
“Mom…”
She looked up, tears streaming down her cheeks, and spotted Dylon standing in the doorway. “Dad, we can’t just let Reese walk away from this. She ruined my life!”
Dylon’s face twisted with pain, his eyes dark with anger. He spoke through clenched teeth.
“Tara, don’t worry. We’ll never let Reese get away with this.
“She destroyed your future. She’s going to pay for what she’s done.”
Rosie nodded, her voice sharp and cold. “That’s right. We’ll make sure Zach knows the truth about Reese. And everyone else will know too.
“We’ll make it so she can’t show her face around Bridger Lake ever again.
“Please, Tara, stop crying. You just had a miscarriage—if you keep crying, your eyes won’t be able to take it.”
