The Doormat Wife’s Ultimate Glow-Up novel Chapter 365

The blood drained from Reese’s face and she felt herself sway, struggling to stay upright. She knew it. Matthew had inherited the same genetic disease as Mr. Ratcliff. She should have made him get checked the moment she found out, but life had gotten so busy. One thing after another, and she just… forgot.

The doctor glanced her way, assuming she didn’t know the details. “This disease is hard to detect. Most of the time, there are no symptoms. It only shows up after serious trauma or stress. We’ve managed to stabilize him for now, but he’ll need long-term treatment and monitoring. He can’t be exposed to any more stress.”

Reese’s tears fell before she could stop them, guilt twisting painfully in her chest. If only she’d remembered to take Matthew to see Millie for a checkup, maybe things wouldn’t have turned out like this. He had risked everything for her again and again. This time, he’d gotten hurt protecting her, and now the disease had been triggered. All because of her.

“Doctor, please, you have to save him,” she pleaded, grabbing his hand, her voice shaking. “I don’t care how much it costs or what I have to do. Just please, save him.”

“We’ll do everything we can,” the doctor promised. “He needs rest now. You can visit him, but please keep it quiet.”

Reese nodded, ready to follow the nurse, when something clicked in her mind. She turned quickly. “I heard this kind of illness can be treated with stem cells…” That was the excuse Jane had given, when she wanted Reese to get pregnant for Robbie.

The doctor’s eyebrows shot up, surprised by her question. “There’s a possibility, yes, but the stem cells have to come from a blood relative. Even then, there’s no guarantee they’ll be a match.”

Reese let out a shaky breath. As long as there was a chance, that was enough. It would be painful to even bring this up with Annie, but if it could save Matthew, she knew Annie would agree. And if Annie couldn’t help, there was always Sebastian. They were brothers by blood.

A weight lifted from her chest as her thoughts settled. She followed the nurse down the corridor. Matthew was lying on the hospital bed, his skin still pale, eyes closed, brow furrowed like he was fighting through pain even unconscious. Reese walked over quietly and sat on the edge of the bed. Her heart ached at how fragile he looked. She reached for his hand, careful not to wake him. It was still cold, but not as icy as before.

Reese kept her voice low so she wouldn’t disturb Matthew. “Sorry to call so early, Alan. Something happened last night.” She explained everything quickly, then hesitated before asking, “I know you have connections to the military. Is there any way you could get a military doctor to check Matthew? And that special medicine they used on Mr. Ratcliff… do you think Matthew could use it?”

Alan was quiet for a moment. “I get it. I’ll see what I can do.” He didn’t really have military connections. His real connection was Matthew himself, and with Matthew in this state, Alan could only reach out to Mr. Sanchez and hope he’d help for Matthew’s sake.

After hanging up, Reese dragged herself to the bathroom and splashed cold water on her face. She had just sat down by Matthew’s side again when her phone lit up. Roman was calling.

“Ms. Meyer, we just got the recording from Alex. We’re heading to the Meyer family villa now to arrest Grace. Do you want to be there?”
