The Double or more Life of the Fake Heiress (Mirabella) novel Chapter 1759

After a moment's pause, Wyatt furrowed his brow and continued, “When I was checking out the Duke’s place earlier, besides spotting about a dozen top-notch assassins, I didn’t notice any snipers lurking around.”

Wyatt was used to playing chauffeur for James, but his scouting skills were top-tier within the security team, so it was unlikely he’d miss any lurking dangers.

Especially with snipers. Given their usual hiding habits, spotting subtle signs with counter-surveillance techniques wasn’t too tough.

James looked up slightly, a hint of mystery in his eyes. “What if the sniper wasn’t trying to stay hidden?”

Wyatt’s eyes narrowed at James’s words, a sudden idea hitting him, “Are you saying the sniper was…”

“Maybe,” James replied, his voice barely audible. He paused, then switched topics, “How are things outside? Anything happen?”

He was referring to the ballroom.

Wyatt shook his head, “Nothing major, just the alarm going off and causing a bit of chaos, but overall, things are under control.”

Thinking back, Wyatt remembered the Duchess calming the guests as he first entered, her actions so organized it was like she’d expected the chaos.

Wyatt’s thoughts came to a stop, leaving him momentarily stunned.

Setting up a sniper ambush for James, only to have the Duke conveniently take the hit… it all seemed like a carefully orchestrated scheme.

Could Murray’s goal really be to make James owe the Duke’s estate a favor? Wyatt found the idea absurd. If it was a ruse, they were pulling out all the stops.

After all, judging by the bullet’s trajectory, it could have ended in real tragedy if they weren’t careful.

With that on his mind, Wyatt glanced at James, ready to share his thoughts, but James, already suspecting the complexity of the situation, had turned and was making his way outside.

He could only hope Mirabella’s absence wasn’t tied to the alarm, that she was just busy changing outfits.

However, as Nick reached the base of the stairs, he bumped into James coming out of a side room.

James noticed Nick’s worried look, his eyes narrowing slightly. “Nick, where’s Mira?”

Nick didn’t bother correcting James's use of his first name. “She spilled wine on her dress, and a maid took her upstairs to clean it over ten minutes ago. But I’ve tried calling her, and I can’t get through.”

James’s gaze sharpened. Ten minutes ago was when Murray had sent him away.

It seemed everything was aimed at Mirabella.

Without another word, James quickly headed up the stairs.
