The Double or more Life of the Fake Heiress (Mirabella) novel Chapter 1779

Nellie didn't show a hint of surprise on her face. From the moment Rea shared that photo on social media, she had a feeling it was meant for her eyes.

With a wry smile, Nellie picked up her coffee cup but didn’t take a sip. “When did you find out?” she asked.

“Last year,” Mirabella replied without skipping a beat. “I caught Nick digging into your background.”

“About Chester?”

“Yeah.” Mirabella nodded, then added, “You went to the hospital last night, didn’t you?”

“You don’t miss a thing,” Nellie sighed softly. “I’m glad you’re here this time.”

If not, she might never have had the chance to see him again.

Mirabella raised an eyebrow. “So, you really are Chester’s mother?”

Nellie’s face clouded over, and she didn’t respond directly. Instead, she said, “I’d like you to keep my being here a secret from Chester.”

To him, she’d been gone for more than a decade.

If she was considered dead, why come back and stir up everyone’s emotions?

Mirabella sensed Nellie was hiding something and couldn’t help but ask, “Why?”

“With your skills, you must know my body’s not gonna hold up much longer,” Nellie said, her smile tinged with sadness. “The living always bear the most pain.”

Mirabella was quiet for a moment before nodding. “I can keep quiet.”

“Yes.” Nellie’s eyes grew cold at the mention of the main facility. “You know, the scientists there are absolute lunatics. Every year, countless people become their research subjects, and Cassie was one of them.”

She remembered seeing the child for the first time, hooked up to countless tubes and experimental machines.

Barely a few months old, he was subjected to daily injections of all sorts of drugs, a cruelty beyond words.

Mirabella looked at Nellie, remembering the unknown substance found in Cassie’s blood during earlier tests. She said, “Cassie was chosen because of his unique blood, wasn’t he?”

“Exactly. His unique blood is part of it,” Nellie said gravely, pausing before revealing a secret she’d kept for years. “He’s also the most successful genetic modification among that batch of infants.”

Mirabella was momentarily stunned.
