Nick's face dropped immediately. He'd been keeping his injured hand under wraps from his sister to spare her any worry. But now, with Axel bringing it up in front of everyone, Nick wasn't too bothered himself, but knowing Mira's temperament, this could stir up trouble.
With this in mind, Nick chose not to engage with Axel and instead instinctively looked over at his sister. Mirabella's expression remained mostly unchanged, but she turned slightly to ask Reid, who was standing behind her, “Didn't you mention that family members can have friendly sparring matches?”
Reid was taken aback for a moment but quickly nodded, “Yes, that's allowed.”
Mirabella gave a small nod, pulled out her phone to check the time, and then looked at Axel. “It's still early. How about a sparring match?”
Her tone was calm, like she was asking something as ordinary as the weather. But everyone around could sense the challenge in her words.
Nick sighed internally, thinking, "Here we go, just what I was worried about."
Axel raised an eyebrow, clearly not expecting a challenge from Mirabella. He didn't underestimate this 'Miss Mira,' who was stepping into the spotlight for the first time. Her morning match with Penelope was proof enough, no matter how much interference there might have been. She was still a contender for the heir.
When Axel remained silent, Mirabella smirked, “What? Afraid of sparring with a woman?”
“Ridiculous,” Axel scoffed, recognizing her attempt to bait him. “Why should I spar with you?”
“Because you’re scared,” Mirabella shrugged. “But that's okay, I don't like sparring with cowards anyway.”
With that, she turned to walk away.
Feeling the sting of her words and the eyes of the crowd on him, Axel couldn't back down. He raised his voice coldly, “Hope you won't regret it when things get rough.”
Mirabella turned back, clearly enjoying his response, and nodded, “Now that's the spirit.”
