The man bore a striking resemblance to Leonard. He was handsome, with sharp, chiseled features and an air of refined elegance. Up close, however, one could see that his eyes were unfocused, devoid of any light.
His deep, magnetic voice echoed in the quiet, somber hallway.
"Moon, what was all that commotion outside?"
The woman, Moon, recounted the events of the previous night.
"Sir, it seems someone broke into the estate to assassinate Mr. Leonard. They even bombed his residence. I heard he was seriously injured."
The man let out a cryptic remark.
"What a coincidence."
Moon looked surprised. "A coincidence?"
"Yes," the man said with a faint smile. "I just received a call. Leonard's latest shipment was hijacked. That client has worked with the Lerman family for twenty years. The route is fixed and has never been compromised. Funny how it happened this time, of all times. And just as Leonard should be managing the crisis, he gets attacked and gravely wounded."
Moon murmured, "…That is quite a coincidence."
"Right," the man said, as if suddenly remembering something. "Moon, have you ever heard of a woman named Abby?"
No servant on the estate wanted to work for Harland. When his staff left, they were rarely replaced. He was an exiled failure—crippled and blind, with no chance of a comeback. Working for him was career suicide.
Currently, Harland's staff consisted of only three people: a butler named Leland, who was hard of hearing; a fifty-year-old maid named Lorna, who had poor eyesight; and Abby. With their physical limitations, Leland and Lorna would have struggled to find work elsewhere, so they remained with Harland, living out their days in obscurity.
Abby figured that as the former heir, Harland must possess some useful information. If he could be propped back up, she could incite a war between him and Leonard, which would be ideal.
However, after arriving, her initial enthusiasm had been frozen solid. Harland's current state could only be described as barely hanging on. A comeback was virtually impossible.
Just as Abby was thinking she had backed the wrong horse and was planning her escape, she stumbled upon a crucial piece of information.
