With Joshua discharged, there was no longer any point in Leonard living across from the hospital. Stella and Joshua were staying at the Williams Manor, an area almost entirely composed of the Williams family's private estate, which left Leonard with no opportunity to spy on them there.
But if the manor was off-limits, the corporate world was not.
The building opposite The Williams Group headquarters offered plenty of high-rise offices. Having been dismissed from his position, Leonard had nothing but time on his hands. He instructed his assistant to purchase a floor with an excellent vantage point directly across from their building.
Stella and Joshua had to work, meaning they spent more time at the office than they did at the manor.
Aurora, meanwhile, was finding herself at her wits' end.
She was doing her best to mend her relationship with Leonard, and while he wasn't giving her the cold shoulder, his requests were getting stranger by the day.
First, it was cooking for him, and now, out of the blue, he was asking if she knew how to prepare medicinal broths.
Making therapeutic cuisine required a certain degree of medical knowledge; it wasn't something one could master by watching a few videos or looking up recipes online.
It demanded precise control over heat, strict combinations of ingredients and herbs, and an understanding of which elements might counteract each other. Most importantly, brewing these broths took at least three hours, time Aurora simply didn't have.
When she expressed her difficulty, Leonard didn't press her. Instead, a few days later, he asked if she could assemble 'Dawnlight.'
His demands grew stranger by the day, and Aurora was beginning to feel the strain. She had to admit, Leonard had a real talent for tormenting people, and he was probably going easy on her.
One day, when Aurora went to see Leonard, she found he wasn't home.
She called him. "Leonard, are you not home today?"
Aurora paused, taken aback. "Leonard, what are you doing all the way over here?"
"The view is nice," he said simply.
Although she found it odd, she didn't overthink it. The area around The Williams Group was known for its beautiful scenery and was a popular spot for sightseeing. It was understandable that Leonard might want a change of pace after everything he'd been through. "What's the exact address? I'll come find you."
Leonard didn't refuse and gave her his new location.
…
Stella's birthday arrived quickly. It was only then that Abby Murphy learned about Keen's kidnapping and Joshua's severe injuries, which had landed him in the hospital for a month. Looking at Stella's thinner face, Abby's heart ached with sympathy. "Star, why didn't you tell me something so huge was happening? I might not have been much help, but I could have at least helped out at the hospital with Joshua, taken some of the burden off you."
