After making her accusation, Aurora fixed her gaze on Joshua, searching for any sign of anger or guilt on his face.
But there was nothing.
Not even a flicker of surprise or shock.
"Oh," he said calmly. "So you were deliberately baiting me with your words just now."
Aurora's tone was icy. "You're wrong. Everything I said was heartfelt. I just happened to record our conversation as well. It's a trick I learned from you, actually. After all, everyone knows how much you love to make recordings."
She took out her phone.
"Hearing is one thing, but seeing is believing. I'll play the recording for everyone right now."
From the moment she had entered the Williams manor and seen Joshua, she had started recording. He was the one behind this; preserving the evidence was the logical thing to do.
Aurora's and Joshua's voices soon filled the room, emanating from the phone's speaker.
"It was you, wasn't it?"
"Yes, it was me."
The conference room was dead silent, save for the clear dialogue playing from the phone.
As the recording played, Aurora maintained a safe distance from Joshua, wary that he might try to snatch her phone and destroy the proof. But Joshua just stood there, perfectly still, showing no intention of moving toward her.
Joshua looked utterly unfazed. "When Sellers, Sherman, and Leonard were all causing trouble for Star, I don't recall seeing this kind of solidarity from the Williams family. You say Aurora knew nothing about what happened back then. Well, Star knows nothing about what I've done. So I assume you won't be blaming her, will you?"
This time, before Jonathan could respond, Israel exploded. "You two are inseparable! Only a fool would believe Stella didn't know what you were up to! Dad, Skyler, Coleman, I told you before that Stella was jealous of Aurora. Look, it didn't take long for her to show her true colors!"
At that, Skyler Williams, who had been silent until now, finally spoke. "Star, did you really not know about this?"
Once again, Joshua answered before Stella could. "Of course she didn't know. As Star's bodyguard and protector, I couldn't stand by and watch her suffer because of Ms. Williams's suitors. Aurora not only stayed out of it, but she also continued to associate with the very people who hurt her. I suppose a wound doesn't hurt until it's on your own body. If that's the case, I figured I'd let her feel some pain, too."
Coleman Williams frowned. "Our father was speaking to Stella. You have no right to speak here."
Joshua's lips curled into a faint, knowing smile. "Ms. Williams herself has identified me as the one who framed her. So why aren't you interrogating me? Why do you keep questioning Star?"
