The Extra Who Shouldn't Exist novel Chapter 252

Chapter 252: Chapter 252 : Why is my spirit or whatever is this ugly (2)

Alex and Charlotte stood side by side, watching as Rick’s legs flailed from beneath a collapsing mountain of scrolls.

The old man had been buried waist-deep in ancient parchment, muttering to himself as he searched feverishly for something.

Alex crossed his arms, clearly irritated.

"Master, can’t we just ask Miss Selena instead? What are you even wasting so much time on?"

Rick’s voice echoed from under the pile, laced with offense.

"You brat! Don’t you have an ounce of trust in your master?! When I say I can handle something, I can handle it! Just sit back and watch."

Alex rolled his eyes.

"Alright, alright. Do what you want, old man."

Charlotte laughed softly beside him, covering her mouth with her hand as she watched Alex grumble like a scolded child.

Suddenly, a loud shout came from beneath the mountain.

"There it is! That’s the one I was looking for!"

Rick emerged triumphantly, scroll in hand, eyes gleaming with pride. He unfurled it with the grace of a mad scientist unveiling his next great disaster and began scanning the faded runes and ancient glyphs.

Alex’s ears perked up.

"Did you find the right one?"

Rick nodded slowly, his eyes not leaving the scroll.

"I think so. At least... I’m 90 percent sure it’s the right one."

Alex’s mouth twitched.

"And the other 10 percent?"

Rick’s eyes flicked up.

"Well... we might accidentally summon a calamity."

Charlotte’s breath hitched. She stood up so fast the chair screeched against the floor, and she made a swift move toward the door.

Alex grabbed her wrist.

"Where the hell are you going?"

Charlotte gave him a nervous smile.

"I just remembered... something important. That needs to be done. Urgently. Somewhere else. You don’t have to mind me. Continue with the summoning."

A vein popped on Alex’s forehead.

"You’re just scared a monster’s gonna pop out and eat you alive, aren’t you?"

Charlotte scoffed.

"Preposterous. Didn’t I swear an oath to risk my life for you?" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

Alex smirked.

"And now’s the perfect time to prove it, don’t you think?"

Charlotte’s mouth twitched violently as Alex began dragging her back into the room.

"Let go! I don’t want to die young! And that master of yours looks crazy—a perfect match for you as two crazy people can indeed summon something even more crazy.!"

Rick in the background already started to make the preparations for the summoning.

Charlotte struggled harder.

"I swear if anything jumps out, I’m throwing you into the summoning circle first!"

Alex grinned and whispered, "Shut it. If a monster does appear, I’ll need a meat shield to act as bait while I escape. You’re perfect for that."

Charlotte gasped.

"What did you just say?!"

Alex coughed dramatically.

"I meant... I’ll defend you with my life. Just sit back and relax."

Charlotte narrowed her eyes and stared daggers at him, but Alex was already turning away, pretending not to notice.

Then, turning toward Rick, Alex asked the real question.

"Old man, are you absolutely sure about this?"

Rick hesitated a moment too long.

"Of course I’m sure!" he said with a stiff smile.

Alex narrowed his eyes.

"Then why aren’t you making eye contact?"

Rick adjusted his glasses.

"I have myopia. Can’t see clearly up close."

Alex sighed deeply.

"I swear, if I get turned into a toad, I’m suing you."

Rick chuckled and began drawing the summoning circle on the floor, moving with the practiced precision of someone who had done this a hundred times... and maybe messed up fifty of those times. He carved glowing runes around the outer edges and poured strange glowing powder into the grooves. Charlotte watched warily from a corner of the room, arms crossed tightly.

Within minutes, the circle was ready. It pulsed softly with an eerie crimson-blue light.

Rick stood up, wiping his hands.

"Alright, it’s ready. Alex, go stand in the center of the circle."

Alex stepped forward and positioned himself within the glowing ring.

"Now what?"

"Calm yourself," Rick said firmly, his tone shifting from eccentric to serious. "Close your eyes... and pour your mana into the circle."

Alex nodded, closed his eyes, and began channeling his energy.

A soft humming filled the room.

The runes ignited brighter.

Lines of light raced through the carved patterns, spiraling inward toward Alex’s feet.

Charlotte leaned closer, curiosity warring with fear.

Suddenly, the wind picked up inside the room.

The scrolls scattered across the floor rustled violently.

Alex gritted his teeth as the circle began drawing more mana from him than expected.

’This... is more intense than I thought.’

Rick watched silently, sweat forming on his brow.

"That’s it... steady now... keep it flowing..."

The circle erupted in a sudden blaze of light.

And the summoning began.

Alex stood at the center of the glowing magic circle, his blood now mixing into the ancient runes carved into the floor. The pulsing light shifted from blue to crimson.

Rick stepped closer and extended a hand.

"Give me your hand."

Alex handed it over without hesitation.

With a swift motion, Rick sliced Alex’s finger with a ceremonial dagger. Blood flowed freely, pulled into the circle by some invisible force.

Rick’s tone turned unusually serious.

"What kind of spirit do you want?"
