Chapter 153
“Hey!” Lucille called from the car. “I’m right here! Talk to me directly. No need for messengers.”
Maricela froze upon seeing her, then gaped at her smile. Panic flickered–would this scene make Lucille refuse to drop the case? “Lucille…” Maricela began her act, “I’m sorry… please forgive me. I just can’t part with these dolls. Luxury goods, big houses, watches, jewelry, money–none matter. But these dolls… Cedrick collected them world- wide over years. They might be worthless, but they’re priceless to me. You don’t like them, right? Give them to me?”
Such acting! Lucille waved dismissively. “They’re just trash I threw out. Enjoy dumpster diving!” She deliberately met Cedrick’s eyes when saying “trash,” her smile loaded with meaning.
Cedrick hated that smile. Especially “trash“-was she insulting him? “Lu-” His anger surged.
“Oh, Cedrick!” Lucille cut him off brightly before he could say her name. “Listen carefully: Maricela said she doesn’t want houses, luxuries, watches, jewelry, or money. Stop insulting her pure soul with such things! It’s unbecoming!”
Cedrick laughed bitterly. “What? Should I insult you with houses, luxuries, watches, and money instead?”
“No no no! I’d never feel insulted! I deserve those! If you think it’s insulting, insult away! I don’t mind! But stop in- sulting Maricela. Right, Maricela?” Lucille asked sweetly.
Maricela stood speechless, mouth agape.
“Enough chatter,” Lucille said. “Get in the car. We need to handle this before work.”
Cedrick loaded Maricela’s giant bag of plush toys into the car.
Maricela naturally followed to get in, but after lingering by the passenger seat, she reluctantly slid into the back.
Maricela shot Lucille a venomous glance before her eyes darted to the cartoon charm hanging from the rearview mir- ror. “Lucille, sorry about pulling off your old lucky charm,” she chirped. “You don’t mind this cute little thing, right?
Cedrick will love seeing it while driving.”
Lucille truly couldn’t grasp why Maricela, fully aware she was the other woman, kept provoking her to her face.
Thankfully, she’d already checked out of this marriage and stopped loving the man–otherwise, this would’ve been in- furiating.
Lucille smiled. “Oh, that lucky charm? I think Cedrick’s wearing it around his neck now!
Didn’t you know?”
She’d seen it earlier when Cedrick held her close at his grandmother’s house.
“Cedrick!

Do you really love this charm so much?”
Maricela’s voice quivered with hurt, as if Cedrick had betrayed her.
Cedrick remained silent.

Lucille chuckled ahead, “That pendant’s carved from precious hardwood! It’s a lucky trinket blessing Cedrick’s safety and fortune!”
“Precious hardwood…” Maricela mumbled, “Is it… really valuable?
Cedrick… I’m sorry…”
Always like this–eyes reddening, tears welling–no matter what happened, she played the victim.
Maricela turned to Lucille apologetically, “Lucille, I’m sorry! I didn’t know it was precious. I thought it was just ordi- nary wood…”
Lucille smiled faintly, “Oh?
Didn’t you just say money means nothing, only sincerity matters?
Now you look down on wood?
Isn’t this wood sincere enough?
Carved by hand, stroke by stroke!”
Maricela crumpled further, looking utterly shattered, “Lucille, I truly didn’t know you carved it! Had I known, I’d nev-
er have taken it down! Cedrick didn’t stop me when I removed it. I thought it was just some random—”
“Would our big CEO Cedrick hang ordinary wood in such a prominent spot?
It must hold special meaning!”
Lucille glanced at Cedrick, pressing her lips together in amusement–he was losing patience.
“Enough. Both of you, stop.”
Cedrick’s brow furrowed as he cut in.
Fine by Lucille–she never enjoyed talking to them anyway. But Maricela couldn’t resist prodding, “Cedrick… is this… Lucille’s anniversary gift to you?
Then… I’ve really messed up! Let me take my thing down and put the charm back!”
