Chapter 218
788 Woochiers
Damn it! Off again!
Anger flared–then he remembered. Lucille was abroad now. He didn’t even have her overseas number.
He went back to WhatsApp and made a voice call.
Lucille saw his incoming voice call just as she was about to have lunch with Meredith. Seeing it was Cedrick calling, she didn’t answer.
But he kept calling.
Whether Lucille rejected the call or just ignored it, he didn’t stop.
Even Meredith noticed.
“Professor, I need to take this call. You go ahead.”
Meredith understood, smiled, and went ahead.
Lucille turned around and answered the phone, “Cedrick, what’s gotten into you?”
Cedrick’s voice came through, hoarse and raspy, “Lucille… Lucille…”
“What do you
want? Just
say
it!”
“Lucille, I don’t feel well… I’m sick…” His voice was not only hoarse but also slurred, as if he wasn’t fully conscious.
“Cedrick, if there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up. Your discomfort has nothing to do with me.”
“Lucille, Lucille, don’t… I’m really sick. I’m ill.”
Lucille found it utterly ridiculous, “You’re sick?
You’re sick and you call me?
Cedrick, are you out of your mind?”
“I want water… My head hurts… I can’t get up…”
It was like talking to a brick wall!
He wasn’t listening to a word she said!
But she understood perfectly well: in his delirious state, he remembered her, Mrs. Maynard. “Cedrick, you just want someone to wait on you, don’t you?”

Chapter 218
“Lucille, I’m really suffering…”
“If you’re suffering, call your Maricela!
She knows the passcode to your place anyway. Let her take care of you!”
Isn’t she your true love?
But Cedrick rasped, “Maricela ?
How could I call Maricela… I can’t bother her…”
Lucille hung up directly.
Cedrick was something else. They were oceans apart, and she had clearly moved on, long since stopped hurting. Yet now he was pissing her off again.
So Maricela was the little princess who couldn’t be bothered?
And she was just the old maid who waited on people?
“Lucille!”
Aydan caught up from behind. Seeing her expression, he asked with a smile, “What’s wrong?
Who made our Lucille angry?”
Lucille shook her head with a smile, “Nothing. Let’s go eat.”
“Alright!
Eating is the top priority!”
Aydan said cheerfully.
Lucille laughed out loud. Aydan was comforting her in his subtle way: eating was the top priority, everything else was trivial.
Indeed, she was abroad now, with vast skies and open spaces. How could she still be tied down by the garbage emo- tions from back home?
Meanwhile, on the other end, Cedrick was talking when suddenly there was no response in his ear.
He closed his eyes, silently holding his phone, but couldn’t hold on for long and drifted back into a dazed sleep.
He was woken by the doorbell.
But he didn’t want to answer. He covered himself with the blanket and went back to sleep. After ringing for a while, it stopped, so he ignored it.
This time, however, he couldn’t fall asleep, nor did he sleep for long, because Mylee came up.

Chapter 218
288 Weuchars
Mylee had been discharged from the hospital, but her injuries weren’t fully healed. Her foot was sprained; though she limped, she could walk. Her arm was still in a cast, slung around her neck. Her daughter Sophia Hopkins had accom- panied her. After escaping from the countryside, she had changed her daughter’s name to her own surname, hoping her daughter would always bask in the warm sunlight.
I came mainly to pack some things. With Lucille gone, this household no longer needed her services. She’d gather her belongings and leave.
She rang the doorbell, but no one answered. Probably nobody home, she thought. Just as well–she’d pack first, then call or leave a message for Sir.
