Cedrick chased after them and blocked their path. His gaze was still fierce as he stared at Robert, but he asked Lucille, “Any news on Grandma?”

“Sir, this doesn’t seem to concern you.”

In the night wind, Robert shielded Lucille behind him. Dressed all in black, his eyes were cold, and he had an especially powerful presence.

Cedrick sneered, “None of my business?

Where the hell did you come from?

You ask her who I am to her!

The word ‘ex‘ infuriated Cedrick. “Ex?

The command came out automatically. Lucille always listened to him. In the past, she would do whatever he told her to. Even though she was angry with him now, he was certain that on a matter of principle, she would never make the wrong choice!

But Lucille didn’t move.

She stood behind Robert, exhausted by this drama. Especially with her grandma still missing, all this talk about husbands and ex–husbands just annoyed her.

She took Robert’s arm, not wanting to say another word.

“Lucille!”

Cedrick’s eyes were locked on Robert’s arm. “Where are you going?”

Neither Robert nor Lucille responded, their backs telling him it was none of his business.

“Are you sure you’re not coming home with me?”

He chased after them again, grabbing Lucille’s hand.

Lucille was extremely impatient. “Cedrick, I don’t know where Grandma is right now. I’m a mess, can you please stop talking about all this?”

“I know… I know…” Cedrick’s tone softened. “I know you’re worried about Grandma being missing, I’m worried too. At a time like this, shouldn’t we be working together to find her?

Lucille felt there was nothing left to say to him and struggled, “Let go. I’m leaving.”

Cedrick wouldn’t let go, shaking his head. “Lucille, come home. You’ve been gone for a month. Don’t you miss home?

Mylee Hopkins quit. I’m the one cleaning the house every day now. It’s exactly the same as when you left. Come home, okay?”

“Cedrick, do you really have to be like this?”

Lucille grew more impatient. “That house, do you really think it’s my home?

A house where the passcode is the birthday of your unattainable ideal… you think that’s my home?

Or that it’s decorated entirely in her style? You think that’s my home?

Cedrick looked at her, stunned.

“Mr. Maynard, please have some self–respect. Let’s all keep some dignity.”

Robert pried his fingers off one by one, then led her away.

Cedrick watched her get into Robert’s car, standing frozen for a long time until an officer from the local police station called to him, and he finally snapped out of it: Right, find Grandma!

Lucille’s biggest wony right now was her grandmother’s whereabouts; finding her was the number one priority.

Robert drove himself. He didn’t bring a driver, nor did he call Edwin.

After he got in the car, Edwin called.

Robert glanced at Lucille in the passenger seat next to him. He didn’t start the car right away and just said “Yeah” when he answered, letting Edwin know he could talk.

Edwin said a few simple things on the other end, basically that he had what Robert wanted and would send it over. Then he sent Robert several files.

After Robert hung up, he went through the files one by one.

You had to admit, Edwin was efficient. In such a short time, he’d managed to get dozens of pages of files, complete with pictures and text.

He spent a few minutes skimming through them and got the gist of it.
