Lucille rolled her eyes.

On the second floor, he designated the master suite and nursery. “Make the entire third floor a study. The maid gets her own quarters. Thoughts?”

“Perfect.” Lucille nodded. “Exactly what I was thinking.”

Except the master suite wouldn’t include him. As for the nursery… she probably wouldn’t remarry or have children anyway.

He gave her hand a restrained squeeze, lips quirking slightly. “Good.”

It was good indeed.

Lucille imagined his reaction when he realized this house had no place for him. She felt a flicker of anticipation…..

“Then it’s settled.” He turned to the agent. “Process the paperwork.”

He bought the house swiftly–signed contracts, paid in full.

After the formalities, he led her back to the car, finally heading toward Grandma’s.

Sitting in the passenger seat, she examined her hand, reddened from his grip.

For a whole villa? Fair trade.

She pondered how ideal this community was for Grandma’s retirement. Smart property management meant if Grandma felt unwell, she could press a button connecting directly to security. Lucille could rest easier even overseas.

As for their current home, she didn’t want it anymore. Though legally under her name, every corner screamed Maricela. Even if awarded in the divorce, she’d sell it immediately.

He sounded genuinely pleased.

That good mood lasted all the way to Grandma’s house.

At that moment, Grandma was just sitting down to lunch–a bowl of Multigrain Oatmeal, a plate of Pickles, and some greens on the table. Seeing them, she looked both surprised and a little flustered, quickly gathering the dishes.

“What brings you here at this hour?

Have you eaten?

I’ll whip something up!”

Lucille looked at the simple meal, a stark contrast to the lavish spreads Grandma always prepared for her visits. “Grandma, is this all you’re eating?”

Grandma swiftly picked up the oatmeal and pickles. “Oh, this is just leftovers from breakfast. Hate to waste it, you know? I don’t usually eat like this.”

Lucille wasn’t buying it. She stared at Grandma, pouting like a sulky child.

“Alright, alright, no need for that face! Grandma will make something tasty right now. Just wait!”

Grandma hurried into the kitchen with the dishes, almost as if dodging Lucille.

Lucille felt a pang of sadness.

She didn’t believe this was just a one–off thing…

Cedrick set down the gifts he’d brought for Grandma and walked over to Lucille, faintly amused. “You always turn into a little kid the moment you step into Grandma’s house.”

Lucille ignored him, following Grandma into the kitchen instead.

Grandma had already opened the fridge, pulling out some meat to show her. “See? Fresh meat, bought today! Planned it for dinner. Just my luck you caught me cating leftovers.”

But Lucille remained unconvinced and unhappy about it.

Grandma chuckled. “Oh, you! Fine, you two must be hungry. What would

you like?

I’ll cook it.”

“Savory Pork Noodle Bowl,” Lucille mumbled softly.

“Alright-” Grandma’s voice lifted cheerfully. “Go sit outside! I’ll make it for you!”

Lucille didn’t move. “Let me help.”

“Go on now! What help do I need?

I’m not so old I can’t manage!

The doctor says folks my age need to keep moving! Resting all the time is no good!
