The Heiress They Couldn't Break (Amelia) novel Chapter 353

Chapter 353 Chasing

“You finally remembered me.”

The voice on the phone carried hurt and a little bit of teasing. It made Amelia’s heart jump again without her meaning to.

She took a breath and tried to sound calm. “I saw the news about the Curran Group. I just got a little worried about you.”

Jeremy let out a soft laugh on the other end. “You’re worried about me? I thought you forgot all about me. Don’t worry. The Curran thing isn’t a big deal.”

Amelia blinked. His relaxed tone made her curious. “So … how are you going to fix it? The whole thing is blowing up.”

“It’s just a trap I set,” Jeremy said casually. “Everything will settle soon.”

Then his voice changed. “But you … you’ve been avoiding me for so long. Don’t you think it’s time you finally saw me?”

“I … I’m not avoiding you. Don’t overthink it!” Amelia denied it right away.

She wasn’t that timid. She just didn’t want people talking about them together every day.

“Really? Well, I’ll be near your area later. Want to grab lunch?”

“Who wants to eat lunch with you?” she shot back instantly.

“Why are you freaking out?” Jeremy teased. “You’re either avoiding me or scared of me. Or… are you scared I’m trying to chase you?”

Jeremy couldn’t hold it in anymore. The words “chase you” slipped right out.

He acted cool, but he was sweating.

He was more nervous than when he negotiated a deal worth more than a hundred million dollars.

Amelia froze. She didn’t expect him to say something like that-especially that last part. Her face warmed before she could stop it.

But Jeremy sounded half-serious and half-playful, and that pulled her back to herself.

She huffed into the phone, “Please. I’m not interested. If you want to chase someone, go chase anyone else.

“And by the way, the line of people trying to chase me is pretty long. One more or one less doesn’t matter. Don’t think too much.

“I don’t have time for dating. I’m busy with work. I’m busy teaching bad men and fake women lessons. So don’t get in my way.

“That’s it. I’m hanging up. Don’t bother me.”

She said everything in one breath and hung up without hesitation.

The moment the call ended, she felt great.

Maybe knocking Jeremy down a notch wasn’t a bad thing.

Otherwise, he might think he’s the only option she has.

Besides, he had a fiancée and a whole engagement mess. Amelia couldn’t afford to look too eager.

Work felt way more satisfying than romance anyway.

She wanted to be a confident, glowing woman-not some girl who only talked about love.

On the other end of the line, Jeremy sat in silence.

She really had some fire in her.

He only revealed a tiny hint that he wanted to chase her, and she smacked him right back with a few sharp sentences.

A long line of men chasing her?

Unbelievable.

And yet… he couldn’t help smiling.

Also, she could work and date at the same time. He could even help her deal with those “bad men and fake women.”

Jeremy leaned back, thinking hard.

If he wanted Amelia before Bridget forced him into another engagement, he needed a better plan.

He rubbed his chin, his eyes filled with mischief.
