Chapter 58 A Dangerous Game
Marcelo nodded, his voice low. “If she’s behind this, we will never let her off easy.”

Vincent took a deep breath, forcing down his anger. He scooped Gianna into his arms. His tone was gentle. “Don’t be scared. I’ll take you to the hospital and get you patched up.”
Gianna nodded weakly, curling into his chest. Her body kept trembling.
Her face was badly swollen and bruised. Her clothes were torn, and blood was smeared across her arms and legs. She looked so broken it was hard to watch.
Fortunately, Vincent and Marcelo had shown up in time.
If those three thugs had really gotten their way, she wasn’t sure she’d have had the courage to live with it.
“Gianna, don’t be afraid,” Vincent said as he looked at her injuries. His chest ached as if something had been ripped out of him. “Whoever did this to you–we won’t let them get away with it.”
Could Amelia be the one behind this? The thought burned in his mind.
“Vincent, you take Gianna to the hospital. We’ll deal with these thugs,” Marcelo ordered.
Gianna froze. That couldn’t happen. If her brothers questioned those thugs, her plan would be fully exposed.
These men were just hired hands. They thought she was Amelia all along.
No matter how she explained, they wouldn’t listen.
And if Uriah’s name got dragged into this, she’d be ruined.
She weakly grabbed Vincent’s shirt, tears streaming down her face. Her voice shook. “Marcelo, I’m hurting so bad. I’m terrified. Can we just go? I don’t want to see them.”
Vincent’s heart nearly broke at her plea. He pulled her tighter, his voice soft and soothing. “Don’t worry. I’ll take you to the hospital right now. You’ll be okay.”
This trick always worked on Vincent.
Recently, he’d been considering making peace with Amelia for the sake of his shares.
But the moment he saw Gianna looking so fragile, his resolve melted.
Hearing his words, Gianna let a faint smile touch her lips.
Even though her face was battered, she could see her act of pity had worked. Vincent’s heart ached for her.
She lifted her teary eyes toward him, her voice barely above a whisper. “Vincent, thank goodness you came. If you hadn’t … ”
Vincent tightened his hold around her, his voice low and gentle. “Don’t be afraid. I’m here.”

Miguel’s cold stare swept across those groaning thugs on the floor. He turned to Marcelo and said, “We should hold these guys until Gianna’s stable. Then we’ll make them talk.”
Marcelo nodded. His eyes hardened, flashing with cold light. “They dared to lay a hand on a Nygards. None of them will walk away from this.”
Gianna panicked when she heard this. She had to contact Uriah right away.
As long as those thugs insisted Amelia was behind everything, her plan would still work.
Taking advantage of a moment when they weren’t paying attention, Gianna quickly sent a message to Uriah, begging him to send people to clean up the mess.
“No one can find out it was me. If they ever get questioned, they must claim it was all Amelia.”
After she received Uriah’s reply, Gianna finally breathed a sigh of relief. The weight pressing on her chest lifted.
She quickly deleted the messages and lay back down, feigning helplessness.
When Amelia got home, she found Jeremy sitting on the couch.
“What brings you over?” she asked, surprised.
“Why didn’t you answer your phone?” Jeremy’s eyes searched her face anxiously. When he saw she was fine, his tense expression softened.
“I went out to get some herbs for your treatment,” Amelia said lightly. “Something happened on the way.”
“Are you okay? Did you handle it?” Jeremy asked at once, his brows knitting together.
Could it be Uncle Wade’s men?
“It’s fine. I handled it,” Amelia replied calmly. “It was Gianna. But she brought it on herself; karma caught up with her.”
Jeremy nodded slowly and reminded, “Good. Still, you need to be careful. Uncle Wade is looking for Dr. Ace. He’s trying to stop the doctor from helping me.”
“I know,” Amelia said softly. “Don’t worry. The poison in your body is almost completely gone. I’m working on some recovery pills for you. Just remember to take them on time.”
“Got it,” Jeremy said with a faint smile, his tone firm and full of trust.
At the hospital, Gianna was admitted to a VIP ward.
The doctors diagnosed multiple soft–tissue bruises and severe facial swelling. She needed to stay for observation.
Lying in bed, her face covered in cream, Gianna looked pitiful and disheveled–nothing like her usual elegant self.

Vincent sat at her bedside, holding her hand tightly. His eyes were filled with guilt and pity. “Gianna, does it still hurt?”
She shook her head, but tears kept falling. “Vincent, I was so scared. I really thought I’d fought them to the death.”
Vincent’s expression softened with affection. “Why are you so silly? Don’t worry, we’ll make sure those men pay for what they did to you.”
Just then, the door opened. Marcelo walked in, his expression dark. “Vincent, those thugs… they escaped.”
“What?” Vincent stood up sharply, shock flashing across his face.
Marcelo’s tone was heavy. “Their transport van got rammed on the way to jail. They took advantage of the crash and ran.”
Vincent frowned deeply. “That’s way too convenient. Feels like someone planned this.”
