Amelia walked into Nygard Group’s entertainment company and headed straight for Maxwell’s office.

“Do you even realize what time it is? You’re still under contract here, and this is when you decide to show up?”

Maxwell glared at Amelia, furious that she waltzed in like she hadn’t ignored his calls earlier.

He was both embarrassed and angry.

“Just get to the point,” Amelia said, already irritated.

“Don’t forget, you signed with my company. You do what I tell you.” Maxwell repeated the same tired line again.

He’d said it so many times it made her sick.

“And?” Amelia shot back with a smirk.

His tone made it sound like signing a contract meant selling her soul.

“I also registered Gianna for the Popular Model Contest, and you’re going with her. That way, you can look out for each other. Gianna’s got amazing modeling skills, and she even spoke up for you. That’s why I arranged for you to join her.

“I’ll be doing her styling and makeup personally. She’ll shine at this competition. All you need to do is show up and not drag her down.”

Maxwell rattled off one praise after another for Gianna, acting like Amelia should be grateful just to stand in her shadow.

But all he really wanted was to make her play second fiddle to Gianna, to stir up some buzz and attention for her.

“Save it. I don’t need Gianna doing me any favors. I’m not going with her.”

Maxwell’s little plan hadn’t even included her opinion.

His face turned dark, and his voice dropped hard:

“Amelia, you’re being really ungrateful. This is the company’s decision–you have to go.

“What choice do you have? Without us, you’re nothing. If you cooperate, you’ll get better resources later.”

He figured she was pushing back because she’d gotten a small popularity bump from that variety show.

Now, she even dared to stand up to him.

The more he thought about it, the more he regretted ever letting her join that show.

If he’d known it would blow up in her favor, he never would have sent her.

She was only supposed to highlight Gianna’s lovely persona and make people adore her even

more.

Instead, it backfired.

“You’re under contract. You do what I say. I’m telling you to go with Gianna, and that’s final!” Maxwell barked, arrogant and absolute.

Amelia leaned back and smirked. “What, you’re not scared I’ll outshine your precious Gianna again? Didn’t you learn last time?”

“Gianna’s got natural presence on camera, and her body and aura are perfect for modeling.

“Don’t forget–I’m a famous image designer. With me personally styling her, she’s guaranteed to wow everyone.”

Maxwell was dripping with confidence, convinced he couldn’t be wrong.

Amelia just found his arrogance nauseating.

“Not happening. I’m not going with her. Let’s end the contract–I’d rather not see you again.”

She wasn’t against doing the competition itself, but she wasn’t about to do it as Nygard Group’s puppet.

Maxwell acted like she was the only one who gained from that variety show, but the truth was, the company had raked in plenty from her too.

Now she was determined–they weren’t going to get another dime off her.

“End the contract?” Maxwell burst out laughing, as if she’d told the funniest joke in the world.

“Amelia, do you know what breaking your contract costs? Five hundred million dollars. You think you got that kind of cash lying around?”

His voice dripped with mockery, certain she was delusional.

Amelia wasn’t about to argue with him. She simply pulled out her phone and played a surveillance clip she had saved.

It wasn’t that she couldn’t pay the penalty–she just had no intention of handing money to the Nygards.

Maxwell squinted at her suspiciously, then turned to the screen.

The footage showed that day on the variety show, when Gianna tried to shove Amelia off a cliff.

The weather had been awful, and Gianna assumed the cameras were off. What she didn’t know was that a hidden camera had caught everything.

On–screen, Gianna’s face twisted in malice as she pushed Amelia with both hands, nearly sending her tumbling over the edge.
