Eliza looked at Nolan.

That morning, she had only casually mentioned craving something sweet.

And he’d gone all the way into the city to buy it?

She’d wanted something sweet once too. There had been a shop right downstairs, but Zayden had told her sweets made you fat and that she should eat less.

She was a housewife with no income of her own.

If Zayden wouldn’t buy it, she simply couldn’t have it.

Those bitter memories surged forward. Eliza’s nose tingled, and her eyes began to redden.

“What’s wrong?”

Nolan walked over. “So touched you’re about to cry?”

“…I’m not.”

Eliza walked to the table and looked at the desserts spread out–small, adorable cupcakes in all shapes and flavors.

Nolan had also brought egg tarts and mango pomelo sago.

And her favorite: pearl milk tea.

They’d only been living together for a little over two weeks, but Nolan had already memorized all her preferences.

“The news says med prices will keep dropping.”

“I know.”

Eliza replied, “I already lowered the prices a while ago.”

“You won’t lose money?”

“They were bought at clearance prices. I won’t lose anything.”

She couldn’t lose money even if she tried.

Eliza hadn’t started out with prices this low because she didn’t want to undercut the market too much.

That would push other sellers out of business–and eventually kill her own.

“You’ve got frosting on your face.”

Nolan reached out and wiped the cream from the corner of her mouth.

The gesture was too intimate. Eliza instinctively pulled back. “I can do it myself.”

Seeing her recoil, Nolan withdrew his hand.

He took a sip of coffee and asked,

“What are you planning next?”

“Antigen test kits.”

The words slipped out of Eliza’s mouth without thinking.

In truth, antigen tests wouldn’t even be mentioned in the news until two months later.

Almost no one knew what they were yet.

No one was selling them online either.

In past years, they’d barely sold at all.

Noticing Nolan staring at her, Eliza quickly lowered her head.

Nolan’s gaze was deep and probing. He asked casually, “What’s an antigen test?”

It didn’t sound like a question–it sounded like an interrogation.

Eliza didn’t believe for a second that Nolan didn’t know what antigen tests were.

She responded vaguely, “It’s the one I used on you before.”

“Is that so? First I’ve heard of it.”

Eliza lowered her head and sipped her milk tea.

Suddenly, even that didn’t taste good anymore.

“Uh, I’ve got something to check on at the warehouse. I’ll go take a look.”

“I’ll come with you.”

“No need…”

Just as she stood up and made a beeline for the door, Nolan reached it first and blocked her way with one hand pressed against the wall.

He was a head taller than her–at least.

Before Nolan could finish, the doorbell rang.

Eliza didn’t hesitate–she flung the door open.

Outside, Henry was shivering as he rubbed his hands together. He quickly stepped in.

“You guys, bring the stuff inside!”
