Over the phone, Halbert said, “Henry will be attending tonight’s event as a shareholder of the university. I’m doing this for your own good, I just want you two to spend more time together.”

“What does it matter to you whether I get closer to Henry or not? Are you two that close?”

From the moment Halbert had Henry stand up for her, to now actively trying to matchmake them, Eliza was seriously starting to suspect the two had some kind of personal relationship.

“You’re overthinking it.”

Halbert replied. “I just think instead of wasting your feelings on that Nolan, you might as well invest in someone else. Henry’s a great choice, he can give you everything you want. Family background, looks, ability. he’s top–tier in all of it. Most importantly, you two are engaged.”

Listening to Halbert go on, Eliza rubbed her temples, suddenly tired. “Who told you that just because a girl grows up, she has to get married? What if I don’t want to?”

“As long as the guy isn’t Nolan, we won’t object if you decide to stay single forever.”

Halbert threw in Nolan’s name yet again–clearly trying to drive the point home

“Don’t worry, Halbert,” Eliza said. “I meant what I said, and I’m not going back on my word. You don’t have to keep finding new ways to remind me.”

With that, she hung up, it was obvious Halbert had made up his mind to push her and Henry together.

Staring at the gown in front of her, Eliza muttered, “How am I even supposed to put this on?”

Aside from that one time overseas when Tristan had hired a professional stylist and makeup artist for her. the only other time she’d worn a gown like this was at her high school’s New Year’s Eve dance.

She glanced at the two bodyguards beside her. “You guys know how this works?

They exchanged confused looks, then shook their heads in unison.

They were just a couple of rough security types–how on earth would they know how to help with a formal gown?

Just as Eliza was growing frustrated, a low male voice sounded beside her. “Let me help.”

She turned to find none other than Zayden standing there.

He was dressed in a crisp white shirt, looking far more mature than before.

“I’ve arranged a makeup artist and stylist for you. It won’t take up much of your afternoon.”

“What are you doing here…”

As far as Eliza remembered, Zayden should’ve been overseas with Tracy at this time.

Why would Tracy allow him to return to Westbrook?

Zayden saw the confusion on her face and knew what she

about to ask.

“You don’t have to say it.”

Eliza’s voice was calm. “I told you a long time ago, there’s nothing between us anymore.”

She took the gown bag from him and turned to the two bodyguards. “Go find me a makeup artist and stylist. I want them here by this afternoon.”

The bodyguards didn’t dare say no.

Eliza turned her gaze back to Zayden “Thanks for the gesture, Young Master Lu, but I’ve got it covered. No need to trouble yourself.”
