Chapter 303 Misunderstandings and Responsibilities
Elaine looked at Zayden and Eliza with a trace of doubt in her eyes.

She knew that Zayden and Eliza had broken off their engagement before the Holt family went bankrupt. But what she didn’t know was that Eliza and Henry were now engaged.
They had all grown up together. There was no way Nolan would fall for his brother’s fiancée.
Elaine forced a smile and looked at Eliza. “I had no idea you were engaged. And to Henry, no less. If I’d known, I wouldn’t have acted that way last time.”
“That doesn’t seem like any of Ms. Elaine’s concern.”
With that one line, Zayden completely shut her down.
Elaine hadn’t known about Eliza and Henry’s engagement–but now that she did, she actually felt relieved.
Because she knew Nolan would never steal his brother’s woman.
Elaine stepped up to Eliza and apologized. “Then it must’ve been my mistake. I didn’t realize you were Henry’s fiancée. That puts my mind at ease.”
Nolan had always treated his brothers well.
Maybe Eliza had only grown close to Nolan because of Henry.
Eliza didn’t respond.
She glanced at Zayden beside her. She didn’t know why he was stepping in to defend her.
But the more they said, the worse things looked.
That class period dragged on without focus or substance.
As soon as the bell rang, Eliza left the classroom. Zayden followed close behind,
Realizing he was trailing her, Eliza stopped. “Why did you say all that earlier?”
The things Zayden had said could easily be misunderstood.
He paused before answering. “I just didn’t want to see you get bullied.”
Hearing this, Eliza replied coolly, “No one can bully me. You’re overthinking it.”
She was a noble of the Sue family now. Who would dare?
“That wasn’t bullying just now?”
Zayden knew what Eliza was like. Tricks like Elaine’s didn’t even register to her.
Eliza had grown up enduring hardship. When it came to patience, no one could compare.
She never cared about unfair treatment.
Very few things could truly make her angry or upset.

Chapter 303 Misunderstandings and Responsibilities
As long as it didn’t hurt her interests, she could pretend not to see it.
Just like with Elaine today.

Elaine’s arrival should’ve meant nothing to her. She knew Elaine couldn’t touch her. She posed no threat.
And yet Eliza had asked to transfer out. She’d backed down..
That wasn’t like her at all.
The only explanation was Nolan. Eliza was giving way to Elaine for Nolan’s sake.
“I don’t know what your reason is, but don’t let yourself get pushed around”
With that, Zayden turned and walked away.
Eliza stood in silence, watching his back.
She’d chosen to step aside for Elaine.
Not out of kindness.
But because she didn’t want to be the one to destroy someone else’s happiness.
The engagement between Nolan and Elaine was a fact.
If her presence alone was enough to ruin someone else’s life-
Then she’d rather walk away.
Just like in her past life, when Zayden had chosen Naomi and cast her aside without hesitation.
She knew exactly how that felt.
And she’d never forgotten.
At that moment, inside Hayes Corporation.
Nolan was in the middle of a meeting when his secretary burst in, out of breath.
-Nolan frowned at the interruption. “Speak.”
“Mr. Hayes, Ms. Elaine went to Claire University.”
The color drained from Nolan’s face
He had already withdrawn from Claire University, just as Eliza asked.
