“I thought we were just having dinner tonight,” Eliza whispered. “If I just leave like this, wouldn’t it look like I’m disrespecting you?”

The rest of the people here weren’t exactly easy to deal with–especially Henry’s aunt, who was walking in front of them.

From the moment they arrived, Henry’s aunt had been eyeing them with scrutiny. And when she looked at Henry, her gaze was full of disdain and contempt.

“This is the room. You two can go in.”

Henry’s aunt stepped aside.

When the door to the study opened, Eliza was a little stunned by what she saw.

She’d been in Tristan’s study before and thought it was already low–key luxurious.

But the Foster family’s study was extravagant and proud–completely unashamed to show off.

The room was filled with rare antiques.

There were deer antlers from the previous dynasty, ancient artifacts unearthed thousands of years ago.

None of it was in protective display. These relics were placed out casually, like ordinary decorations.

As if the current owner had every right to claim them as his own.

“Father, Eliza is here to see you,” Henry said respectfully.

Eliza finally spotted the old man sitting in the chair.

He didn’t look like Henry’s father–more like his grandfather.

Judging by his appearance, he had to be nearly seventy.

His face was lined with deep wrinkles, and his eyes were clouded yet somehow still sharp. Everything about him screamed danger.

This old man was not someone to be trifled with.

Having come to that conclusion, Eliza stepped forward politely. “Mr. Henry, it’s a pleasure.”

“Emilia? You’re Emilia’s daughter?”

Mr. Felix immediately recognized her.

Eliza hadn’t expected him to know her mother. A strange feeling rose in her chest.

“You… knew my mother?”

It was a perfectly ordinary question, but the secretary beside Mr. Felix frowned, clearly finding Eliza’s words disrespectful.

“I’ve heard about how many rules the Foster family has,” Eliza said with a polite smile. “But I see now it’s even more than expected. You must be Mr. Felix’s secretary? A mere secretary daring to correct a guest in front of your master–anyone else would think you’re just a dog barking at whoever passes by.”

“You-!”

The secretary was clearly insulted.

But he couldn’t talk back.

Eliza turned to Mr. Felix. “Yes, Mr. Henry. I’m Emilia’s daughter. If you knew my mother, then you must know that we’re quite alike. I’ve never been one to follow rules. If the Foster family doesn’t want me as a daughter–in–law, you’re welcome to cancel the engagement. My brother reminded me before I left: the Sue family isn’t afraid of trouble. If anyone dares to bully me, no matter who they are, we’ll make sure they pay.”

Henry nearly laughed out loud.

At first, he’d been worried Eliza might get the short end of the stick.
