Chapter 382 A Game of Intentions.
Tyson deliberately put on a conflicted expression, only making Elaine more certain that Eliza and Henry had broken off the engagement because of Nolan.
If it was really due to incompatible personalities, they would have separated long ago–there never would’ve been a formal engagement in the first place.
“Is it because of Nolan? Did Eliza… get together with him?”
Her voice was tight with anxiety.
Tyson replied, “I can tell you seriously–they’re not together. But… at the last company meeting, Nolan really crossed the line. He defended Eliza at every turn and didn’t consider your position as his fiancée at all. I’ve already spoken to him, but he’s the one in charge of the Hayes family now. There’s not much I can do.”
Elaine’s expression darkened even more. “He won’t even listen to you anymore? Does he really like Eliza that much?”
She had grown up with Nolan. Not once had she seen him care about a woman the way he did now.
He even publicly defended Eliza during a company meeting–directly challenging Tyson.
Seeing how tightly Elaine clenched her fists in jealousy, Tyson smiled faintly. “There’s no need to be upset. The Hayes family has many fine young men. Even if Nolan isn’t an option, you could look around and choose someone else. You’re free to pick whomever you like.”
“I only want Nolan! Please… help me. I really want to be with him. Even if it’s just marriage–just marriage would be enough for me.”
Elaine clutched Tyson’s arm, eyes filled with earnest desperation.
Tyson pretended to hesitate. “It’s not that there’s no way.”
Her eyes lit up instantly. “What way?”
“Before Eliza and Nolan have a chance to become anything, you need to change Nolan’s perception of you. If you two sleep together, it’ll give me a reason to publicly support your relationship at the next board meeting. Under pressure, Nolan will have no choice but to agree to an engagement. After that, marriage will naturally follow. And if Eliza tries to interfere then, she’ll just come off as shameless. Public opinion will turn against her, and the backlash will drive a wedge between them.”
As Tyson laid out his plan, Elaine grew discouraged. “But Nolan doesn’t even like me. I’ve tried everything, and he still feels nothing.”
“That’s because you’ve been using the wrong methods.”
“What do you mean?”
“Men are… well, they’re pathetic creatures. The more you like them, the more they think you’re clingy and annoying. But the moment you stop chasing after them, they start wondering why–and slowly get drawn
in.”
“You’re saying I should ignore/Nolan? But if I ignore him, he probably won’t even remember I exist.”
She had been stuck in that hotel room for days now, and Nolan hadn’t once come looking for her.

Tyson smiled. “I said not to chase after him. I didn’t say you can’t get his attention. You still need to show where he can see you–just don’t run to him the second you spot him like before.“.
Elaine mulled over Tyson’s words. Surprisingly, they made a bit of sense.
“I understand. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. Go on and walk around a bit. I just came by to check in. I’ll see you another day.”
With that, Tyson got into the car with Julio.
Julio hesitated for a moment, then asked, “Mr. Hayes… are you really trying to help Ms. Elaine?”
Tyson’s expression was unreadable. “Of course I am.”
But Julio still found it odd. “It’s just… the advice you gave her. That might work on most men, but I don’t think it’ll work on Mr. Nolan.”
If Nolan liked someone, he liked them. If he didn’t, no tactic would change that.
