Chapter 426 Face–Off

Once the car stopped in front of Eliza’s apartment, she got out.

Upstairs, Halbert stood by the window, watching as Nolan and Eliza stepped out of the car together.

His face remained unreadable behind the glass.

Eliza spotted him too. With a playful smile, she hooked her arm around Nolan’s and stuck out her tongue at Halbert, making a face.

Halbert clearly took it as a challenge. His expression turned colder by the second.

Back inside the apartment, Eliza said to Nolan, “You can head back now. I’ll go on up.”

“Alright.”

Nolan reached out and gently ruffled her hair.

Eliza went upstairs.

No sooner had she entered than Halbert’s voice rang out from the living room. “I told you to keep your distance from Nolan. Now you two are clearly much closer. Eliza, don’t forget what you promised me.”

“I did promise, but Henry’s just using me. The only one who truly treats me well is Nolan. Besides, he’s already called off his engagement. Why can’t I be with him?”

Halbert’s face darkened.

“In our world, no one’s without an agenda,” he said coldly. “As long as you’re the Sue family’s daughter, Henry won’t dare mistreat you. Marry him, and he’ll protect you like a treasure. As head of the Foster family, he’ll guarantee your safety. You’d be the lady of a powerful household, untouchable even beyond Westbrook. What’s wrong with that?”

“Nolan can give me the same.”

“Don’t be naive. You think Nolan’s clean? Do you even know the kind of things he’s done? He’s not someone you can depend on. He’s surrounded by enemies and can barely protect himself. Tyson’s after the Hayes Corp throne – you really think Nolan can keep his position safe?”

Halbert’s tone was icy. “You need to think about the bigger picture. Nolan doesn’t have what it takes to keep you safe. Right now, you should be focused on protecting yourself. Even if you’re engaged to Henry, as long as you carry the Sue family name, you’ll be fine. But if you get tangled up with Nolan, who knows what he might drag you into?”

Eliza didn’t want to hear it.

Seeing that his words weren’t getting through, Halbert stood up and left.

Outside, one of the bodyguards noticed his dark expression and hesitated. “Sir…”

“Start the car.”

‘If Eliza wouldn’t listen, then he’d go to Nolan directly. He couldn’t just sit by and watch her get dragged into

danger.

The bodyguard quickly pulled the car around.

Halbert had already informed Hayes Corp he was coming, so the receptionist didn’t stop him. Instead, she led him straight to the president’s office.

Halbert knew Nolan would return to work right after dropping Eliza off.

Just as Nolan stepped into his office, Halbert arrived.

Taking a scat, Halbert looked directly at Nolan. “You know I’ve never supported your relationship with my sister. I hope Mr. Hayes can recognize his position and stay away from her.”

“Did Eliza tell you to say that?”

Hearing Nolan call her Eliza, Halbert’s expression darkened.

“Mr. Hayes, the Sue family has not acknowledged any relationship between you and our youngest daughter. Addressing her like that is inappropriate. From now on, I’d prefer you either call her by her full name or refer to her as Ms. Sue.”

“You’re Eliza’s brother, and I mean no disrespect.”
