When she thought about it carefully, Eliza realized it had always been Nolan chasing after her.

After a moment’s reflection, she said, “Maybe when someone really loves you, you don’t need any tricks at all. Your situation with Cramer is different. There’s still a wall between you and him. Once that wall comes down, he’ll gradually fall in love with you.”

Because Vivian was too good.

People always wanted to hold beautiful things in their hands.

Once that wall was broken, it would only be a matter of time before Cramer fell for Vivian.

“We’re friends now too. From now on, don’t call me Ms. Rivers. Just call me Eliza.”

“Eliza… I’ll call you Elizze instead.”

Vivian shyly took Eliza’s hand in return. “When I was little, I was sickly, and Mom never let me go out. So I never had any friends. I’m really happy you’re willing to be mine.”

Eliza smiled. “Of course I am. You’re also the first friend I’ve made overseas.”

But after Vivian left, Eliza’s smile faded into guilt.

Nolan stepped out from the adjoining room. “She’s gotten what she wanted. You don’t owe her anything.”

“But I started out helping her with ulterior motives,” Eliza admitted.

If it had been anyone else, she might not have felt it so deeply. But Vivian was just an innocent young girl. Every bit of help she had given her had been driven by purpose.

“How’s the investigation going?” Nolan asked.

“Our people got into Eastborough University. One of their labs runs on a system very similar to the medical school at Financial University.”

Their focus had always been on Saint Corp and Eastborough University, since Wendy had managed both before.

Wendy couldn’t possibly have pulled all her people out so quickly.

And from Vivian’s words, they now knew Wendy still had access to Saint Corp’s channels. Which meant Cramer was allowing the same things to go on.

In other words, Saint Corp had only changed leaders–the shady dealings had never stopped.

Eliza had long suspected Cramer was no different from Wendy. Neither of them were good people.

No wonder he had kept so many secrets.

“I think we should start by figuring out exactly which channels Wendy needs,” Eliza said. “She raised Vivian for years, but gave her up to Cramer the moment this channel was at stake. That proves how important it is to her. My guess is it’s tied to Eastborough University. Shouldn’t we focus our efforts there?”

“Agreed,” Nolan replied. “I’ve already sent people to look into Eastborough University. But the entertainment industry issue still isn’t resolved.”

So far, Wendigo Corp had been strangely quiet. Eliza had expected Wendy to strike while the iron was hot and push those celebrities forward, but Wendy had held back instead.

Just then, Eliza’s phone rang. Matteo was calling.

She answered, and his voice came through. “Naomi’s back.”

Eliza’s brows knit. “You’re sure?”

“Positive,” Matteo said. “I’ll send you a photo.”

He hung up, and moments later, a picture arrived on her phone.

It was clearly a candid shot.

Naomi stood in a living room, her belly swollen with pregnancy, one hand on her back.

From her side profile to her face, she looked exactly like Naomi–there was no mistaking it.

But Eliza frowned.

She knew she couldn’t be wrong.

At Wendigo Corp’s banquet, she had clearly seen the masked woman. She had even seen photos of her online. That woman hadn’t looked exactly like Naomi, but Eliza was certain it was

her. Naomi must have had surgery, and she had come overseas with Wendy.

So then who was this pregnant woman in the Hartwell family home?

Eliza typed: “Naomi’s mother hasn’t returned?”

Matteo replied: “No.”

Seeing his quick response, Eliza’s unease only grew.

If that woman at the Hartwell estate wasn’t Naomi, then she had to be a double.

Just what were Naomi and Wendy plotting together?
