Chapter 88: A Taste of the Game
“You know what you’re saying?”
Tyson had originally thought the girl just had guts–some backbone, nothing more. But Eliza’s sharp observation took him by surprise.
“I was just guessing, Mr. Tyson. No need to be so tense.”
Eliza wasn’t your average high schooler. She had lived an entire lifetime already.
With that experience, she wasn’t the type to shrink in front of someone like Tyson.
Her reply made Tyson study her more closely.
This girl… So that’s the type Nolan likes. What an oddball.
Tyson’s eyes flicked toward the rearview mirror.
Sure enough, he spotted Nolan’s figure growing smaller and smaller.
He raised an eyebrow with amusement.
No matter he wouldn’t mind playing Nolan a little.
Soon, the car stopped in front of a restaurant.
It was a five–star hotel, offering both local and foreign cuisine. Tyson deliberately chose fine dining.
“Have a seat.”
He’d done his homework: Eliza had never once dined at an upscale place like this, thanks to her parents‘ neglect. She likely had zero experience with formal Western dining.
Clearly, Tyson intended to watch her embarrass herself.
His gaze lingered on her, scrutinizing her every move.
The waiter approached. “Here’s the menu. What would the two of you like to order?”
Eliza took the menu.
Every item was written in English–Tyson’s doing, no doubt.
He smoothly placed his order in fluent native language before glancing at her, clearly expecting hesitation.
But Eliza didn’t flinch. She calmly ordered the most expensive dishes on the menu.
Tyson raised an eyebrow.
So this little thing could handle herself.

And she had a spine, too–vindictive, even.
“Mr. Tyson, should I consider this a thank–you lunch?”
“You could.”
“Then I won’t hold back.”
Eliza rang the bell and ordered the most expensive bottle of red wine on the list.
Tyson’s brow twitched. “You’re a student, and you drink?”
“Who says students can’t drink? A little wine adds to the mood.”
And the corkage fee will bleed you dry, Eliza thought smugly.
Soon, the food arrived.
Eliza handled her utensils with practiced elegance, her table manners impeccable.
She clearly wasn’t new to fine dining.
Tyson glanced at Julio beside him.
Julio looked confused.

He’d looked into her background–no visits to fancy restaurants, no time spent abroad, and supposedly weak language skills.
So how the hell was she doing this?
Across from Tyson, Eliza silently thanked her past self.
Because she’d married Zayden in her previous life, she’d had to attend all sorts of social functions and formal dinners. As his wife, she couldn’t afford to make a fool of herself.
She’d learned every bit of dining etiquette thoroughly.
And she owed part of her poise to Nolan as well–his intensive speaking drills had brought her spoken foreign language to another level.
“Didn’t think today’s students had such polished manners,” Tyson commented, casually. “What do you think of the food?”
“Average,” Eliza replied without thinking.
Then she paused–she realized Tyson had set a trap.
He smiled faintly. “What’s wrong with it?”
Seeing that he was clearly testing her, Eliza responded without hesitation, “It’s not bad, but the steak is low–grade and overcooked. It’s supposed to be medium, but this is easily medium–well. As for the pineapple foie gras–nothing special. The texture’s off, and you can still taste the connective tissue. The
