Chapter 3
“Alexander, help me! She pushed me hard…”
Right on cue, Alexander rushed over, scooping Abigail into his arms and then yanking me up only to slam me down onto the floor.
“Eleanor! You dare to hurt someone right in front of me?”
“Do you have any conscience left?!!”
“If it weren’t for the fact that pregnant women can’t be imprisoned, I would’ve had your locked up right now to reflect on your sins!”
I looked up at the furious Alexander.
His eyes and face still looked so familiar, so much like the man who once promised me the
world.
But now, I felt nothing but cold detachment.
In my previous life, when Abigail killed herself, he saw me as a murderer.
In this life, Abigail was alive and well, and he still believed I was the one who committed
arson.
What was the point of staying in this marriage?
I parted my lips and spoke with a voice devoid of all emotion:
“Alexander, let’s get a divorce. If you want to accuse me, go ahead.”
“The child is gone now. I’d love to see if you can still have me thrown into prison.”
Alexander’s brows furrowed tightly, his voice filled with suspicion.
“What the hell are you talking about? What do you mean the child is gone?”
Looking at his expression, I suddenly felt like laughing,

“It’s YOU!! You killed our child!!”
Shock flooded Alexander’s eyes. Abigail immediately jumped in.
“Stop talking nonsense! You must’ve ruined someone else’s child and didn’t want Alexander
to find out, so you deliberately took this chance to miscarry!”
I couldn’t stop myself from letting out a cold, mocking laugh.
“By that logic, I must be incredibly skilled.”
“I deliberately set a fire, nearly burned myself to death, all just to stage a miscarriage?”
“Abigail, is there any lie you won’t spew from that twisted mouth of yours?”
Abigail’s face turned bright red from being called out, and she immediately started crying
pitifully.
“Alexander, she’s slandering me again. I don’t understand why she hates me so much…”
She tried to crawl into Alexander’s arms, but he didn’t move. Instead, his fixed on my belly.

He knew how frail my health was, how much we both had longed for this child.
No matter how cruel he thought I was, he knew I would never deliberately harm my own
baby.
“Eleanor, I… I didn’t know, I only wanted to teach you a lesson.”
“You shouldn’t have started the fire. You’re always so unreasonable, and I just… lost
control.”

I shook my head.
“I don’t want to hear your apologies. It’s too late for that.”
“If you truly think I started the fire, go ahead and lock me up. Investigate me all you want.”
Alexander bit his lip, his voice trembling with uncertainty.
“I didn’t know… I… You’re in a weakened state right now. Just go home and rest for now.”
Abigail’s head shook wildly like a rattling drum.
“Alexander! She nearly KILLED me!”
“If my parents were still alive, they would never stand by and let me suffer such injustice…”
“Mom, Dad, I miss you so much…”
Listening to Abigail’s sobs, Alexander’s expression gradually stiffened.
I knew all too well. Abigail’s parents had once saved Alexander’s life.
Later, the old couple died in the line of duty, leaving their precious daughter Abigail to live
on alone.
Over the years, Alexander had poured all our savings into supporting Abigail, buying her
cars, houses, and luxury items–I never complained.
But once Alexander’s parents struck it rich with their business, Abigail clung to him like a
leech.
If her light bulb broke, Alexander had to go fix it. If her toilet clogged, Alexander had to go unclog it. Even a small cut on her finger from chopping vegetables required Alexander to
take her to the hospital.
Every time I subtly tried to remind Alexander about boundaries, Abigail would cry and bring up her parents.
I used to feel conflicted and helpless, not knowing how to balance Alexander’s sense of duty

and our own relationship.
But now, having lived through everything once, I understood.
Abigail’s parents saved him, not me.
If Alexander wanted to repay his debt to Abigail’s parents by projecting all his gratitude onto her, that was his business.
They shouldn’t have dragged me into it, forcing me to play the villain in this twisted story.
I couldn’t take it anymore. I stood up and walked away.
“Alexander, I’ll have a lawyer prepare the divorce papers.”
“From now on, our paths will no longer cross.”
Abigail, nestled in Alexander’s arms, looked up at me in shock.
And for the first time, in front of both of us, Alexander pushed Abigail away.
He grabbed my arm, his eyes filled with disbelief.
“Eleanor, if you have the guts, say that again!”
I stopped, turned, and stared directly into his eyes, my voice as cold as ice.
“I said, we’re getting a divorce.”
