The rumble of the demolition excavators echoed through the open space, engines growling like beasts unleashed from their cages. Their headlights beamed ominously, cutting through the settling dust. The hydraulic claws flexed, ready to rip steel and concrete apart.
Brown’s eyes widened in terror. His legs buckled, his mind short-circuiting as realization crashed into him like a freight train.
“N-No… it… it can’t be…” His voice faltered, barely a whisper. His pupils dilated, drenched with fear. His body trembled as he stumbled backward, gaze locked on the machines rolling into position.
The helpless facade of arrogance cracked completely as Brown’s polished demeanor shattered.
He spun toward Jaden, panic flooding his voice.
“How—how dare you!” Brown roared, but his voice wavered like a cornered animal. “Do you even understand what consequences this will bring?!”
But Jaden’s expression remained perfectly calm—cold, even amused. His arms folded casually across his chest, his golden aura still faintly radiating like an untouchable deity.
“Consequences?” Jaden echoed mockingly, a cruel smile tugging at the corner of his lips. He took a slow, deliberate step forward. His eyes gleamed with icy contempt.
“You must be joking. There isn’t a single resident within a mile of that hotel. Every civilian has been evacuated… not a soul in danger—except you.”
Jaden’s voice lowered, calm as the blade of a guillotine.
“So tell me, Brown… what consequences?” His words bled arrogance, each syllable deliberate and sharp.
Brown’s face contorted in desperation, cold sweat pouring down his temples. His knees weakened as his bravado crumbled.
“I… I didn’t want it to come to this,” Brown stammered, voice cracking beneath the weight of dread. “After all… the stir… the noise… this won’t be small! It’ll draw eyes from everywhere!”
Jaden chuckled darkly, closing the distance as he bent down, staring directly into Brown’s fearful eyes. His voice turned low, dangerous, laced with venomous calm.
“You wanted noise? You wanted attention? You should’ve thought of that before crossing me.”
Jaden’s hand reached out, tapping Brown’s trembling cheek, the touch light but condescending—like swatting at an insect.
“But now that you mention it…” Jaden’s grin deepened, sharp as a blade, “It would be far more entertaining to crush your pride… to turn your joy, your legacy, into rubble while you watch.”
