Zane walked up to me, his expression unreadable.

“Did you see that?” I asked.

“Yeah,” he replied, putting his hand on my waist. “Don’t worry, I’ll check up on him.”

My eyebrows shot up. “You will?”

“Of course,” he replied. “He looked injured.”

“Don’t you hate him?” I asked.

Zane glanced at me, narrowing his eyes. “I do. But that doesn’t mean I will forget what he did last night.”

I smiled up at him. “Thank you.”

“Why are you thanking me? I’m not doing this for you.”

“Then?”

“Contrary to what you might think, my kindness isn’t reserved only for you.”

I laughed. “I don’t think that.”

“Is that so?” He pulled me closer, making me gasp.

“Yes…” I giggled.

“Hm, that’s good to know.” He pressed a kiss to my temple. “Let’s go now. We don’t wanna be late for every class.”

“Every class? We haven’t been late to classes recently.”

“I know. But we will be today.”

“Why?”

“I’ll tell you after the first period.”

“I don’t like surprises, Zane.”

Zane smirked. “Liar.”

“Alright, fine, you got me. But at least give me a hint.”

Zane leaned in closer to me, eyes flying to the teacher to make sure he wasn’t looking. “You have no idea yet, my love.”

I bit my lip, as my cheeks flamed.

Zane leaned away with a satisfied smile, and I fidgeted with my hands to distract myself from the heat spreading through me. I glanced at Blake again, and this time, his green eyes were fixed on me. My stomach twisted, and I quickly looked away, uncomfortable.

Zane squeezed my thigh under the table, almost making me yelp. I shot him a playful glare, and he chuckled, withdrawing

“I told you we’d be late for a few classes today.”

“I know that, but where are we going?”

“You’ll find out soon enough.” He put an arm around me and led. me out of the classroom.

“Give me a hint at least,” I urged as we walked into the corridor.

Zane stopped, stepping in front of me. “Do you trust me?”
