Chapter 155 – Moon’s Lost Daughter
–LIA’S POV–
I blinked.
“Turn me?” I confirmed.
Zane nodded, looking ashamed.
“Why? I’m not human, Zane.”
“I know,” he replied, sighing. “You weren’t breathing, Lia. You weren’t waking up even though physically, you didn’t have any huge wounds. Your pulse was faint. Emerald tried to wake you. She said a mental block wasn’t letting you return to consciousness. Because your heart was rejecting Blake’s mark. Because you loved me.
I rubbed a hand over my face, frowning when I felt something wet. A green paste covered my finger. I glanced at Zane, realising there were traces of it on his lips and face too.
“What’s this?” I asked.
“It’s a salve. It was supposed to wake you. But it didn’t.”
“Oh, so this is what smells awful.”
“Yeah,” he muttered. “Anyway, Emerald said you could wake up

in a few hours, a few days, or even years. I couldn’t sit around and wait for you to die. You weren’t human, but your transition to what you are wasn’t complete yet. So there was a chance that I could lose you. I couldn’t take that risk.”
“So you decided to bite me–
–if I died, I would wake up as a werewolf,” I said.
“Yeah. It would also enhance your bond to Blake and help you accept his mark. So I bit you.”
narrowed my eyes at him. “What would happen if I was some other supernatural creature and you’d turned me into a werewolf? Or, if I had fallen hopelessly in love with Blake after waking up and forgotten my feelings about you?”
Zane shrugged. “Well, for the first part, maybe you’d become a hybrid. It was a gamble, Lia. I did what I thought best in the moment.”
“And the other part?” I asked, shoving his chest. “If I woke up happy with his mark and crazy about him? If our bond severed as soon as I accepted his mark? What then?”
Zane gave me a sheepish smile. “At least you’d be alive. Why do you think I cried after you told me you love me?”
I shoved him again, glaring. “You could have created a huge mess, Zane Adams.”

“But nothing happened.” He grinned.
“Are you sure?” I raised a brow. “Because I feel your mark too, Zane. Where you bit me. It didn’t turn me. It marked me.”
“You had two mates. What’s two marks?”
“It fulfills a part of the prophecy,” I stated.
Zane frowned. “Prophecy?”
“You don’t know?”
“I—no. What are you talking about?”
“I know what I am, Zane. I saw everything.”
Now his eyes widened. “What did you see?”
“The Moon’s Lost Daughter.”
“You know,” he whispered. “You know what you are.”
I nodded slowly. “I saw my birth mother too. Her name was Selene.”
Zane pursed his lips, not saying anything.
“There was also a prophecy,” I added, quoting it to him. “Marked by two, bound by one, her choice will decide the fate of

all.”
“I don’t know about this,” he said. “You were always meant to have two marks?”
I nodded. “I guess.”
“Lia,” Zane whispered, taking my hands in his. “Do you—have you realised what exactly you are?”
“The Moon’s Lost Daughter.” I shrugged.
He stared at me. “How are you so relaxed about this?”
“About what?”
“Being the Moon’s daughter.”
“We both knew I might be a werewolf, Zane. What’s so surprising?”
Zane pressed a fist to his lips, staring at me.
“What?”
“You’re the Moon’s daughter, Lia. Not a werewolf. You’re… I think it makes you a goddess.”
My breath caught in my throat. “What? Are you crazy?”

“What did you say your birth mother’s name was?”
“Sel–” I stopped, eyes widening. “Selene,” I whispered. “It
means–”
“The Moon.”
I blinked, mouth parting. No words came out. Only a breath.
How was this possible?
No, it couldn’t be.
This was ridiculous.
“Oh my God,” I whispered. “You’re saying that the white sphere we see in the sky is my mom?”
“Sounds like it,” Zane muttered. “You saw a lot of wolves bowing to you in a dream before, didn’t you?”
“Yes, but that’s… that’s just not possible. It’s not possible, Zane!”
He didn’t say anything, simply stared at me.
Dots started to connect, all pointing to a single, unbelievable truth.
I covered my mouth with my hands, my heart racing. In fear or thrill, I wasn’t sure.

“They were worshipping me… because I’m their goddess’s daughter.”
He nodded.

“And the white light… you and others saw a white light escape my room every time I disappeared. That was moonlight?”
“Probably.”
“So what? The moon decided to visit earth for a bit, hooked up with a human boy, had a baby and then went back? What shone in the sky until then?”
“Stars,” he replied. “All of this might not have happened at once. Maybe every time we think its a new moon phase, that the moon is simply facing away from the earth, it’s actually walking among us in human form. Maybe every twenty–nine or thirty days, your mother visited her lover, and miraculously bore his child.”
“But she said everybody knew who she was, that if they kept me, I would never have a normal life. Everyone would know what I am. They couldn’t even leave me with my birth father’s parents because it was known that he was her husband.”
Zane sighed. “I’m sure there’s an explanation to everything. We might find out more. There are a thousand ancient scriptures throughout the world. The full story might be hiding in any of them.”
