–CHRISTY’S POV–

Chris, wait,Nathan said, grabbing my wrist and turning met around. He frowned when he saw the terror on my face, his eyes flickering behind me, then returning to meet mine. What’s wrong?he asked, pulling me closer, wrapping a protective arm around me.

I panted, trying to catch my breath.

We have to go,I whispered, staring up at him.

Okay, okay. Relax.

He quickly led me out of the hallway, hurrying towards the cafeteria.

Zane,I whispered, my voice trembling. Please call Zane.

Nathan frowned, pushing open the doors of the cafeteria.

Why, Chris? What’s wrong?

Just call him, please,I begged as he seated me down on a chair, kneeling before me.

Okay, I’m calling him. Calm down. Breathe.

I couldn’t. I couldn’t calm down, and breathing felt like a chore. My chest was tight. My gaze fixed on the door of the cafeteria, afraid Blake would walk in any second. The image of his red eyes floated in my memory. I balled my fists on my lap, shivering.

Nathan fished out his phone from his pocket, his face full of deep concern. He dialed a number and placed the phone on his ear.

There was passion. There was hunger. A thirstlike he’d craved this for years.

Maybe I was projecting my own onto him. I didn’t know. I didn’t

care.

But it was finally happening.

What happe–

Zane’s voice.

What was his problem?

Why was he interrupting?

Nathan broke the kiss, and I held back a frustrated groan.

I opened my eyes, all my senses numb as he turned to Zane and said. something.

Zane and Lia were standing behind him, staring down at us.

Lia’s lips were pursed, excitement in her eyes.

Zane looked confused.

Nathan glanced at me again.

He was so beautiful.

Christine?he said, cupping my cheek again.

I leaned into his touch.
