Frosting dripped from the edge of the table, and Rhonda’s scream still rang in my ears.

Christy sat frozen in her seat, eyes wide, while Nathan kept looking between the smashed cake and the door Lia had just

stormed out of.

“What the hell just happened?” he said finally, running a hand through his hair. “Why did Rhonda even listen to her?”

Christy blinked like she was waking up from a trance. “I think… she tried to act cool or something. Maybe hoped people would think she was being funny.” Her voice was small, but her heartbeat gave her away. Fast. Unsteady. She was just as shaken as the rest of us.

“You shouldn’t have done that, love,” I said quietly. “Not after the quiz incident. You knew Rhonda would actually do it.”

Lia crossed her arms. “Yeah. I knew. I did it on purpose.”

My brows furrowed. “You wanted her to humiliate herself? And like that, in front of everyone watching? That was reckless, Lia.”

“I don’t care if it was reckless, Zane,” she replied, defiance glinting in her gaze. “I wanted her to be humiliated in front of everyone. Because that’s what she deserved.”

I stepped closer, gently taking her arms, trying to meet her eyes. “You said you didn’t want to use your power for small stuff like this. Remember?”
