G
I woke up to find my bed empty.

Frowning, I checked the time in my phone, and realised it was already afternoon.
Then I realised I had a phone, even though mine had broken last night. How did it get here?
Before I could start scrolling through it, it started to ring—Zane’s name flashing on the screen. There were two kiss emojis in front of it. I smiled and rolled my eyes, answering it.
“Good morning, Lia. How are you feeling?” he asked.
“Hi,” I said. “I’m better. When did you leave?”
“Why? Do you miss the warmth of my body? You were snuggling closer to me all night.”
“Yeah, right,” I laughed. “Thanks for fixing my phone, by the way.”
“Mhm. I take it you found your gift inside it.”
I raised an eyebrow. “What gift?”

“So you haven’t checked your gallery yet?”

I narrowed my eyes. “Zane, if I find pictures of your manhood in there, I swear–‘
“Goddess, Lia, no. What kind of a person do you think I am?”
“Just playing safe,” I replied. I put the phone on speaker and opened my gallery, a laugh leaving my lips immediately. “Zane Adams, you’re such a jerk.”
He laughed. “What? What’s wrong with that?”
“How could you take such ugly photos of me?”
“Ugly?” he said, sounding offended. “Speak for yourself. That is my mate and she is a sight to behold. Even with her mouth open and drooling as she sleeps.”
“You’re unbelievable,” I muttered. “And I wasn’t drooling.”
“You sure were. Probably dreaming about our kiss. I wiped it away with my own fingers, love.”
“Yeah, and I should believe any word that leaves your mouth.”
“There is another gift for you in the washroom. But you don’t believe me so you won’t check.”
I instantly did just that.

“Where did you even get it?” I asked, stepping closer to the dress. It was identical to the one I wore last night, which was tattered and slashed now.
“Magic, “Zane replied. “I thought you’d need one so you don’t have to explain its condition or absence to your mom.”
I could not believe how thoughtful he was.
Zane Adams, of all people.
God. This felt like an elaborate dream. The kind I now didn’t
want to wake up from.
“I don’t know what to say, Zane. You’re… amazing.”
Zane chuckled. “Thank you. Not more than you, though.”
“I’m just a girl.”
“No, you’re my girl.”
I smiled, but narrowed my eyes. “Oh, so we’ve established that without even asking me for confirmation?”
“Maybe, “he replied cheekily.

“Idiot.”
“Only for you.”
I laughed again. “Stop already.”
“Stop what, my love?”
“Flirting. Quit it, Zane.”

“Why?“he teased. “Is it making your bookish, nerdy little heart melt?”
My eyes widened.
“Oh my God. Books.”
“What?”
“Zane, I had a test today.”
“Yes, Lia. I did too. And I sat for it.”
“Why didn’t you wake me?” I asked incredulously. “Even Mom didn’t.”
“Yeah… remember how your mom thought Blake has your phone?”
I frowned. “Yes?”

“I may or may not have texted her, pretending to be him. I told her not to disturb you as the test and the class is cancelled. The teacher was so sick, he couldn’t get off the bed. Poor soul.”
“Zane, why?” I sighed, sitting down on the bed.
“Because, Lia, you were attacked by a werewolf last night. You almost died. So you’re safer at home, and you’ll recover faster if
you rest.”
“Zane,” I said tiredly. “These things are–”
“Important to you, I know. Which is why I also submitted a letter of excuse from your Mom to Mr. Watson. There is a guy in my pack who is really good at forging signatures.”
I blinked, dumfounded.
“Mr. Watson said you can take the test when you feel better, because I took the liberty of adding your medical prescription as well for proof. Stamped by Dr. Emerald Will.
I held my head. “I cannot even count how many of those things. you did are illegal and would end you up in jail.”
“Mhm? And can you count how many seconds it would take me to break down the bars of my cell and escape?”
“No words, Zane. I have no words.”

“I make you speechless, don’t I?”
“It’s not in a good way,” I muttered.
“I’d like to disagree.”
I shook my head, even though he couldn’t see me.

“Anyway, can we go back to talking about how nice I am?”
“No, we can’t. You made my head hurt.”
“Wait, seriously? Are you okay?” he asked with concern.
I let out a fake cry. “No. I’m fine.”
“Okay, good. Now go get something to eat. You need it.”
“Alright,” I replied. “Bye bye.”
“Good bye, love.”
