–LIA’S POV–

“Are there other creatures out there?” I asked. “Other than

humans and werewolves?”

“Maybe,” he replied. “Just like werewolves spent so long in hiding, maybe there’s other creatures too? Hiding and posing as humans?”

I sniffed. “Yeah… maybe.”

“Don’t worry about it for now,” he said. “I am looking into it, Lia. I will let you know what I find out.”

I nodded. “Okay.”

“I spoke to Emerald about the tracker and I’ve already got one. So whenever you’re ready, we can go back to the pack house and have it installed.”

“You wanna go now?” I asked.

“No,” Zane shook his head, “not now. Not today. You spend the day with your parents, reassure them that you still love them. That you’re not leaving. I will come over for dinner, and we can spend some lovely time together as a family. What do you think?”

I offered him a smile. “It sounds perfect.”

“Great. You feeling better now?” he asked.

I nodded. “I am.”

“Good. I love you, Lia.”

“I love you too, Zane.”

He pulled me into another hug, and kissed my hair. “You ready to go back downstairs and face your parents?”

“Yeah, I think so.

“You can do it, my love. They’re the same people, nothing has changed, I promise. They need your support right now.”

“You’re right. I should go to them. Mom must be very worried.” I stood up from the bed, taking a deep breath.

Zane stood up too, a gentle smile on his face. “See you in a few hours,” he said, leaning in and pressing a kiss to my mouth.

“Bye,” I grinned, cheeks flaming.

“Bye.” He slipped out the window, and I took another deep breath, preparing myself to go downstairs.

I stepped out my bedroom, and heard Mom crying still. Dad was

awfully quiet. I couldn’t hear him reassure her or comfort her.

I made my way down the stairs, and found Mom kneeling in front of Dad, who sat on the sofa with utter disappointment on his face.

My heart tightened in my chest, but I gathered my courage.

“Mom, Dad,” I said softly.

Both of them turned to me, their faces brightening up a little.

“Both of you are the best parents in this world, and I am the luckiest that I get to be your daughter. I don’t care whether I’m adopted, you found me on a doorstep, the side of the street, or inside a freaking trash can. None of it matters, because both of you have loved me more than most people love their biological

children.”

Mom stood up, and I hurried up to her, pulling her into a tight hug.

“Thank you,” I said to her, “for taking me in and giving me so much love.”

I glanced at Dad, who was still seated, watching the two of us.

“And thank you, Dad,” I said, opening one arm for him, so he’d join us, “for giving me a home, providing for me and for always protecting me.”
