It had been an hour since Lylah was locked in the barricade. She had allowed it, knowing that ending, Brigid right then wouldn’t solve the problem at hand.
But now, she regretted it. Her blade should have gone for the throat instead of the shoulder… then she’d gladly accept whatever punishment followed.
However, she had felt a strange wave of sensation while yelling at Brigid–a strange voice that had left her lips.
Could it be her wolf that was slowly manifesting?
Footsteps echoed, growing closer with each passing second. Then familiar figure stopped before her cell, the metal clacking as he unlocked the gate and swung it open.
Lylah looked up at Falcon, raising a brow.
“The Beta summoned you.”
As she stepped out, Lylah almost wished she had spent more time in the cell. It had been quiet, helping her contain her anger. Now that she was out, it was taking everything in her not to go after that bitch and finish what she started.
“Lylah,” Isla’s voice made her head tilt to the right, meeting a pair of worried hazel eyes. “I’m sorry, I had to tell the Beta.” Lylah nodded with a faint smile. “It’s alright. Thank you for stopping me earlier.”
Isla smiled in relief, but it faded when Lylah added, “But I’d appreciate it if you didn’t stop me next time.”
As Lylah walked away, Isla glanced down at her arm–the one Lylah had injured earlier. It was healed now.
Lylah continued following Falcon, who finally spoke as they turned the next corner.
“Attack wolves are dangerous and strong. That’s why they take time to manifest fully. You might end up doing something regretful if you don’t learn to control your emotions.”
“I’m afraid I’m not good at controlling emotions. I suck at it.”
Falcon glanced down at her. “Perhaps you should try my method. Think about someone–someone who eases the fire in you no matter how mad you get.”
Lylah looked up at him, skeptical. “That worked for you?”
“Hm.” He nodded, a sligh
“Who?”
smile tugging at his lips as he seemed to drift into thought.
“My mother,” Falcon replied. “It’s been eight years since I’ve seen her, but we never stopped exchanging messages.” Lylah’s lips curved slightly. “Maybe I’ll try that,” she muttered. “This is the first time I’ve heard you speak this much.”
Falcon shrugged, and for the rest of the walk, he stayed silent until they reached the Beta’s chamber.
Lucas was seated behind his table, head tilted back. At first, he seemed to be asleep, but his eyes fluttered open as he sensed their presence, scanning them.
Lylah bowed in greeting while he stared, assessing her. “You alright?”
Lylah was caught off guard–she had expected the Grand Lord to scold her. “Yes, I am.”
Lucas straightened, sitting up. “How is your sister? Falcon said she’s fine, but he’s bad at reading people.”
Falcon pressed his lips together tightly.
“She’s scared, yet bold as usual,” Lylah replied. “She seems tired too, but I suppose it’s from the recent journey.”

Chapter 149: The reply
A knock interrupted their conversation. After Lucas gave permission, Chase stepped in with two scrolls.
“My Lord. Messages from the Emissaries of the West and North.”

Lucas took the scrolls from him, slid one open, and began to read. After a few moments with both letters, his eyes darkened.
Lying on her bed with impatiently wiggling toes, Arianna glanced at Selene, who served her tea into a cup
“Can I go to my Dun’s observatory now?” Arianna asked.
“No, my lady. For the next few days, you need rest. The travel must have taken a toll on you, and if you keep pushing yourself too hard, it might be harmful for the little one.”
Arianna would have argued, but the words ‘little one‘ made her stop. Still, the worries in her chest were almost unbearable. Her emotions were jumbled–perhaps it was because of her condition
Her eyes suddenly felt heavy, sleep slowly creeping in.
“You should take this first, my lady, before you sleep.”
Arianna obeyed, sitting up and accepting the herbal tea. Selene was right–she needed it. She had barely slept since she stepped foot back into the Citadel.
“Ah–hot,” Arianna winced at the burn on her tongue.
‘Slowly. Don’t rush it.”
Arianna blew on the tea, the steam curling in the air. As it cooled, she took slow sips. After a few minutes, she finished it and lay back on the soft bed even before Selene could instruct her.
“Rest well, Aria,” Selene whispered, covering her with the blanket
