Chapter 161: A woman in his chamber
“All done,” Lylah said, dusting off her hands after helping Selene gather firewood.
“Thank you, Lylah. You should head back to your chamber. You must be tired,” Selene said kindly.
But Lylah shook her head. “I’m not. Do you need help with anything else?”
Selene blinked, now sensing something off. The girl was definitely hiding something. “Who are you running from?”
“Running? Oh no, I’m not running from anyone,” Lylah let out an awkward laugh.
The head maid gave her a suspicious look. “Hm. Then go back to your chamber and lock yourself in. It’s the full moon. Wolves are hungry, and you’re getting more… feminine these days. I know you’d break their necks if they tried anything–and that’s exactly what I’m trying to prevent.”
Lylah pouted, glancing down at her body. Feminine? No wonder some of her clothes had started to feel tighter.
After the head maid bid her goodnight, Lylah began heading back to her chamber. Truthfully, Selene wasn’t wrong–she wasn’t exactly running… but she was avoiding.
Full moons carried annoying memories.
This one had taken its time to rise. Moans and grunts drifted through the air- some had already picked their partners.
Lylah wondered if he had, too.
It was taking the last thread of her sanity not to go and find out.

They had barely crossed paths lately with all the chaos–the Grand Lord had been overwhelmingly busy… and she missed him. Badly.
Knowing her anxiety wouldn’t ease in her room, Lylah decided to walk aimlessly. Her steps carried her down a strange corridor, and she halted the moment she spotted Falcon. She quickly hid, watching as he spoke to a woman standing by a door.
She lingered, trying to listen, but the distance made their voices impossible to catch.
Eventually, the woman stepped back inside. Minutes later, she came out again, now cloaked in a brown robe. Lylah could guess what was underneath–it was the full moon, after all.
Falcon led the woman away, and Lylah followed, using her stealth to keep herself hidden.
Her heart dropped the moment she realized where they were going
Lucas‘ chamber.
Lylah, this isn’t your concern. Of course the Second Ruler could sleep with whomever he wanted. Who was she to stop him?
He had done it during the last few full moons—he could do it again
She watched as the woman entered the chamber. Falcon left shortly after, probably off to carry out another order.
Before she knew it, she was already standing in front of the Grand Lord’s door, her lungs tightening with every breath. Anger surged in her chest, and she didn’t know why.
She leaned closer, carefully.
“Strip,” came Lucas‘ voice, cold and detached.
“Yes, my Lord,” the woman’s soft, seductive voice followed.
Lylah flinched. Her entire body trembled. If looks could kill, the door before her would have been reduced to ash.
She turned away, her breath catching painfully. She needed to leave–now–before Lucas realized she was there.

He had warned her twice already. She couldn’t stay to hear what came next.
Swallowing the lump in her throat, she turned to leave-
But the door swung open, freezing her in place.

With a pounding heart, she spun around–and found Lucas standing; in the doorway, staring at her. His crimson eyes were unreadable.
Her gaze shifted past him to the half–naked woman behind him, who looked back with one perfectly arched brow.
“Why are you here, Lylah?” Lucas asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
But something in his calmness only fueled her anger.
She drew in a sharp breath. “Nothing.”
She didn’t wait for a response. She turned on her heel and walked away, fast. His voice called after her, but she didn’t stop to listen. She didn’t want to.
