Chapter 189: The offer

Brigid spent her evening alone beside the tree where Selene’s body was buried.

She had begged Toran six years ago to bury the head maid here in return for agreeing to marry him. Though it was pointless, as he was already prepared to force her into it, surprisingly, Toran had agreed.

Hours passed as she stared into space, heavy emotions swirling in her chest. Her parentsdeath didn’t hit her the way Selene’s death did.

The woman had been the one guiding and caring for her despite her attitude. But now she was goneall because of her greed.

She knew Selene never meant to push her away. She simply wanted her to come back to her senses. Butit’s all over now, isn’t it?

There’s no going back, and she was going to live with that guilt forever.

Wiping her tears, she rose to her feet and left, her guards trailing behind.

It was past midnight. Darkness clouded the sky, barely a star in sight. The wind was soft, carrying the faint scent of intimacy. Moans and groans echoed faintly from distant corners.

But all Brigid wanted to do was lay on her bed and sleep.

The pain in her abdomen was light, but persistent. Lylah had twisted the blade deep into her stomach, and it was no surprise it was coated with wolfsbanecausing her healing to slow down.

She hadn’t bothered treating it. She wanted the pain, so she kept it hidden under her robe.

When she reached her abode, her breath hitched at the sight of Toran standing by her window.

She wanted to leave immediately, but it was too late. Toran had already turned, trapping her in his gaze.

Both stayed silent for several beats.

Are you just going to stand there without telling me why you’re in my room?Brigid asked.

Your room?he turned fully to her. I’m your husband, fairy. It’s high time you stopped spending most of your days in your private abode.

I prefer it here because it keeps me sane. Away from you,she said.

Toran scoffed as though she’d said something ridiculous.

Sane? None of us here are sane, Brigid. We should accept what we are.

He began to approach, and it took everything in Brigid not to bolt toward the privy and lock herself away from him.

You’re still mad at me,he said, stopping before her. I’m sorry. I just did what I had to do.

Please leave, she whispered. I want to be alone.

He suddenly grabbed her hand and yanked her close, holding her by the waist. Brigid held back a wince as her wound stung.

It’s the full moon, my love. Have you forgotten?

You have a mistress. She’ll be needing your sperm more since she is close to delivery. I’m still weak.

Chapter 189. The offer

Toran sniffed, gaze flicking to her stomach, causing Brigid’s heart to raced. Before she could react, he lifted her robe and caught sight of the wound Lylah had inflicted.

He mustn’t know. Otherwise, Lylah would be tortured againand that was the last thing she wanted.

Who hurt you?

No one.

He immediately wrapped a hand around her neck and pinned her to the wall, snarling.

Don’t you fucking lie to me, bitch. Tell me who fucking hurt you,he growled.

Lylah had doubted Lord Atheon’s strategy, but what he did next truly shocked her. The male seemed to have been planning this for a long timeor perhaps he had someone else backing him.

He had shown up an hour after Brigid left and told her, When the time comes, you’ll know. Just do whatever the guard tells you.

Did she trust him? Hell no.

Did he have any reason to hurt her? Not that she knew of.

No matter how she looked at it, everything happening right now was dangerousbut when had she ever run from danger?

The king summoned her,the two soldiers sent to collect her said to the guards, who gave them a skeptical look.

Lylah, clad in shackles, played the part of an obedient little wolf. Maybe that’s why the guards were doubting things. She wasn’t known for being cooperative.

The soldiers had told her not to bring any weapons. Who the hell were they kidding?

Lylah had three daggers hidden within her clothing. She was excellent at hiding things.

Eventually, the guards stepped aside, allowing the soldiers to take her.

As expected, most wolves had gone into heat, rut, or bloodlust. Lylah could feel her own urges building.

Her dinner was supposed to suppress that. Amy always added medicine to keep her heat and bloodlust in check during the full moon. But tonight, Lylah hadn’t taken it, for two reasons.

First, after what Brigid said, she planned to stop eating palace food. She didn’t want to wake up one day with the memory of the mad king’s dick slamming into her.

Second, she needed the urge. The drive for bloodshed might come in handy if Lord Atheon tried anything stupid.

So far, things was going smoothly, but she wasn’t going to let her guard down. Anything could happen.

Nyx was at the surfaceeager, alert, and excited. She loved danger.

Creepyass wolf.

The two soldiers didn’t exchange a single word with her. They simply led her through unfamiliar, old corridors that connected to the abandoned store at the east wing.

Down rusty halls they went until they reached a door. One of them knocked five times. When it creaked open, they removed her chains and told her to step inside.

Chapter 109. THE C

Lylah’s nose twitched. She resisted the urge to bolt and escape on her own. That would be reckless.
