The Lycan King's Forbidden Craving novel Chapter 229

229: Inside the coffin

Finally, the ritual was over. Sahrak cleared his throat, gently glancing over his shoulder.

It’s done. The magic on the shackles is gone now, and it can be broken with just force.

With speed, Arianna appeared before him and pinned him against the wall, fire engulfing and floating in her other hand.

The first time I saw you, you gave me a womb destroyal poison to end my child. Gave me Beeswax for my lips, to poison my mate. You helped Valoreth, stayed with him while my world collapsed. So why?She tilted her head, eyes blazing. Why are you suddenly listening to me? I honestly thought you would’ve shouted out my presence to those bastards. But you didn’tYou didn’t fight back either, despite being a powerful mage.

Sahrak sucked in a deep breath. You carry the trace of a deity’s power. It would be a death wish to go against you.

Arianna scoffed. Sounds like a joke to me. I don’t trust you.

Brigid stared, wondering what shocked her the most that Arianna was pregnant seven years ago or that she bears a deity’s

power.

But then the noise of a gate opening echoed from afar. Their heads turned in the direction of the sound.

It’s Lord Valoreth,Sahrak whispered.

Arianna shot him a glare. Sahrak quickly explained.

He was planning this. Using the king and queen to open the coffin tonight. I told him it would be ready hours from now. He’s probably here to find me or Brigid.

Arianna’s eyes darkened. Not convinced that the same man who helped Valoreth pull out the hearts of people and used them, would suddenly obey every words she had said.

I’ll distract them. I’ll send Valoreth and his soldiers away but you have to let me go for now, voice still hushed and shaky. I know you don’t trust me, but I have no choice but to obey youfor some fucking complicated reason, his voice trembled, hushed.

She wanted to believe him. So far, he had been truly terrified, as if threatened. Not just because of her.

But she had no choice. Valoreth must not see the coffin opened before her. He mustn’t know she was alive and here. Not yet.

Not until Duncan’s situation was known. Once that is solved she would destroy the rest of the enemies.

Reluctantly, Arianna released him.

Sahrak quickly adjusted his robe, gave her a light bow and hurried out to intercept Valoreth.

As he left, Arianna turned back toward the coffin, stopping just before her hand reached the shackles. Her heart raced for what she might see.

No hesitation, Arianna.

You’ve been waiting for this.

Then she grabbed it. It didn’t shock her like it should have.

With a powerful force, she broke the shackles and swung the coffin open.

Valoreth and his soldiers paused at the sight of Sahrak approaching from the distance, footsteps slightly hurried.

Lord Valoreth,Sahrak called.

What are you doing here?Valoreth frowned as Sahrak passed the second gate.

Came to do the ritual, the mage said, struggling to keep his stoic face.

What? You said the ritual was thirty minutes from now. All of a sudden, you disappear. So does the Queen. And now you’re telling me the ritual is already done?

Yes, it was a change of plan as I figured out the full moon might not last very long and I didn’t want to bother you because of your work. So I convinced the Queen and we did the job,Sahrak said but Valoreth squinted, clearly not convinced. The coffin’s shackles can now be broken. Toran is sacrificed, and the Queen is there.

Valoreth glanced over Sahrak’s shoulder, down the dark passage.

Toran is dead?he asked, almost as if trying to digest the news.

Yes, my Lord.

Alright then. Let’s go get the king’s head. I need it for the Grand Court in a few days. They need to be convinced that the king is truly dead.

As Valoreth took a step, Sahrak blocked his path.

You can’t go in there, my Lord. It’s dangerous. We don’t know what to expect once that coffin opens. I suggest we prepare.

Valoreth raised a brow. You mean he’ll become a monster?

Who knows?Sahrak shrugged. He’s the strongest male in the realm. Even if it’s been seven years, you should think it through. It’s dangerous.

Valoreth stared at the mage for what felt like forever. Then he glanced again into the darkness before sighing. Movement

hesitant.

Fine. I’ll get the soldiers ready,he said, then turned to leave. Come with me, Sahrak. We’ve got a few things to talk about. Let

these soldiers stand watch.

Sahrak glanced at the two soldiers. His jaw clenched.

Well, he hope Arianna will be done before these soldiers spot her.

He had done his best.
