The Mafia Lord's Secret Lover (Evelyn) novel Chapter 161

Chapter 161: He Deserved That!

For a while, Evelyn let the three of them chat, watching her husband and Oscar interact like reluctant allies.

Then she turned to Alicia and Stella. "Come, let’s check the birthday decor in the back. I want to make sure everything’s perfect before the other guests arrive."

Alicia stood gracefully, while Stella followed them with her usual enthusiasm.

The three of them walked together toward the back hall, leaving the laughter of the living room behind.

The party hall was breathtaking. The long dining table gleamed under soft natural light, dressed in linen and fresh flowers.

The golden cutlery glinted beside porcelain plates, and the glass windows framed a stunning view of the mountains and lake beyond.

"It’s beautiful," Alicia murmured, her eyes softening. "You’ve done a wonderful job, Eve..."

"Thank you," Evelyn said with a proud smile. "I wanted something peaceful. Oliver loves the view here. He says it looks like a painting."

"It really does," Stella agreed, wandering to the window. "I’m half-tempted to stay here forever."

Evelyn laughed. "You wouldn’t survive two days without your city life."

"True," Stella admitted cheerfully. "But I could visit often. Especially if the chef keeps making those truffle sandwiches."

Alicia chuckled, shaking her head at her younger daughter. "You’re only thinking about food..."

"Hahaha, you know me so well, Mommy..." Stella wraps her hand around Alicia.

...

They settled into the cozy seating area in the corner, away from the bustle of the staff still making final adjustments.

For a few moments, there was only light conversation.

However, not long after, Stella leaned closer to Evelyn and lowered her voice. "Sis, you won’t believe what happened to Dad."

Evelyn’s eyebrows went up. "What now? Did he try to hurt you both?"

Alicia sighed softly, already bracing herself. "Stella, don’t make it sound like a scandal."

Stella grinned. "It’s not a scandal... Well, not yet."

Evelyn looked between them, amused and curious. "Should I be worried?"

Stella clasped her hands dramatically. "He’s come to meet Grandpa and is begging to help him. He wanted to marry that bitch... How shameless!"

Evelyn was speechless to hear that. She couldn’t believe how shameless William Walters was. Without her knowing, she said, "That old man is insane?"

Alicia exhaled and pressed her palm to her forehead. "He lost his mind. I guess that bitch brainwashed him. No, but maybe that bitch ate half of his brain."

Stella shrugged. "Maybe Lana has figured out a way to manipulate him, using black magic. Who knows?"

Alicia and Evelyn widen their eyes at Stella."

She shrugs, "Ugh, well, my fool father knows he could lose everything, but he still refuses to leave that woman."

Evelyn couldn’t help feeling curious about her grandfather’s reaction. "So, how did Grandpa take it?" she asked.

"That’s the fun part, Sis..." Stella said, grinning from ear to ear. "Grandpa called all his children and slapped Dad. Right in front of Aunt and Uncle. Ugh, not just slap, but he beat him."

Evelyn’s eyes widened for a split second before a slow, satisfied smile tugged at her lips. "He deserved that."

Alicia waved a hand dismissively. "Please. That boy’s charm is natural. Besides, he’s not manipulative. He’s smart... like his mother."

Stella leaned in closer to Evelyn, whispering with a playful tone, "What mom is trying to say is... Little Oliver is going to be spoiled rotten."

All three burst out laughing again.

It felt light, almost foreign, to share laughter like this without tension or old resentment clouding the air.

They continued to chat, mainly about William’s meltdown and the chaos that followed after the slap.

Stella animatedly reenacted the scene, complete with Grandpa’s thunderous expression and William’s trembling hands.

Even Alicia couldn’t help giggling at her own retelling of how she calmly sipped her tea through the entire confrontation as if it were a soap opera.

Their laughter echoed in the room, and she felt a sense of peace after hearing about how his grandparents threatened her father.

However, outside, that peace was short-lived.

...

In the living room, Axel’s relaxed expression shifted the moment his phone vibrated.

He reached for it, scanning the screen without much thought, until he saw the text.

His brow furrowed slightly.

"Joseph Carter just arrived." From: Liam

Axel’s thumb hovered over the screen for a long moment. His jaw clenched, the easy calm from before fading from his face.
