Several days had passed since Axel’s visit to his parents’ house, yet he hadn’t mentioned a single word about what had happened there.
Not even a hint.
Evelyn, though curious, didn’t push him to talk. She knew Axel well enough to understand that he would speak when he was ready and when he thought she could handle the truth.
But deep down, she knew whatever was said at that meeting had been about her.
It always was.
She was certain the Knights had their own opinion about their marriage, just as her own father did. The mere thought of it made her chest tighten.
Still, she didn’t dwell on it.
That weekend, Evelyn chose peace over tension.
With her son and husband, Evelyn spent two full days at home and in their mountain cabin, enjoying the clear autumn skies.
They do many activities as a family...
Axel had accompanied Oliver on horseback, guiding the reins while their son laughed loudly, clinging to him.
And she watched them from a few feet away, capturing the scene on her phone.
Later, they hiked to their cabin on the mountain, Oliver proudly wearing his tiny backpack and pretending to lead the way.
When they reached the top, Axel lifted him into the air and said, "The explorer conquers another mountain."
It was a beautiful, quiet weekend.
The kind that made her forget for a moment that the world outside still talked about them.
...
By Monday morning, life returned to its usual rhythm.
As usual, Evelyn walked Axel to the car. She couldn’t take her eyes off him; he was dressed in his charcoal suit, looking effortlessly sharp as always.
He glanced at her with that easy smile of his. "What’s on your schedule today?"
"Hmm... I’ll probably head out for a bit. I need to buy a few things."
"Out?" He sounded more amused than concerned. "Shopping?"
Evelyn nodded casually. "Yes. Don’t look so surprised. I’m still human. I do normal things."
He chuckled softly. "I didn’t say anything. Just... make sure Ryan stays with you, alright? And listen to him this time." 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
She rolled her eyes, smirking. "You sound like I will make headlines again today."
"I’m just worried because my wife is so pretty, she could easily make headlines..." he teased.
"I’ll be fine, Mr. Knight. You should worry about your meetings instead of me."
"I always worry about you," Axel murmured, and for a moment, the teasing vanished. He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close. "Be careful, Eve."
"I will." Her voice softened as she looked up at him. "Go before Oliver comes running out and starts demanding you accompany him on a ride on his lovely horse."
Axel laughed and kissed her forehead. "You’re right. I barely survived the last one."
Just then, Liam showed up, holding the car door open. "Good morning, sir. Good morning, Lady boss..."
Axel turned to him with a faint smile. "Ready for another day of chauffeuring your old boss instead of your favorite madam?"
Liam smiled faintly, "It’s tragic, sir. The internet ruined my reputation. I can’t even hold an umbrella for Lady Boss without netizens calling me her secret lover."
Evelyn burst into laughter. "You have fans now, Liam. Don’t complain."
"I’d rather have a raise than fans," he shot back playfully, making Axel laugh too.
"Noted," Axel said, amused. "Drive carefully. And don’t let my wife drag you into another adventure."
"I make no promises, sir." Liam politely answers.
