“Did Anthony put some kind of spell on Lottie or what?” Kenneth grumbled to himself.
“It’s robbery. So what?” Anthony shot back without a flicker of shame.
Kenneth could only stare, completely thrown by how shameless Anthony was. He watched as Anthony took Charlotte by the hand and walked away. Left with no other choice, Kenneth trudged after them, shoulders slumped in defeat.
At the car, he pressed his face against the window, frowning and looking at Charlotte like a lost puppy. “Lottie, can you come home sometime? Grandpa’s been asking about you. He really wants to see you.”
He knew she needed some space to process everything. Charlotte thought about it for a second, then nodded. “Okay.”
Kenneth perked up, his whole face lighting up. “Awesome. I’ll take care of the details.” He glanced at Anthony, and his smile faded a little. “Anthony, I’ll let you keep my sister for a few more days. But if you try anything, my grandpa will come after you.”
Anthony just smiled, eyes lingering on Charlotte. He looked amused, like he was in on some private joke. Technically, it was Charlotte who kept sneaking into his bed, always making the first move.
Once their car pulled away, Kenneth’s happy expression dropped. He sent a message to the family chat, attaching his DNA test with Lottie. Then he made a call, asking someone to look into Lottie’s situation.
Charlotte didn’t even have her own place. Had she really been struggling all this time since Nora passed away? The thought of her, who should have been loved and spoiled, having to grow up the hard way, made Kenneth’s chest ache. But that was over now. Charlotte had family. The Gates family would do anything for her. They’d make up for all the years she missed out on. They’d spoil her, protect her, love her, no matter what.
And even if Anthony was a bit older, Kenneth could see he was actually good to Lottie. With both the Gates and Blair families backing her in Cabinda, Charlotte would never have to feel alone or wronged again.
Inside the car, Charlotte leaned back in her seat, hugging her tablet and watching the screen with total focus.
She opened the “Happy Family” group chat, and right away, Adonis’s messages popped up.
Adonis: Charlotte, did you eat today?
