Olivia’s eyes filled with tears as she watched her favorite dress slip through her fingers. She stood there for a few seconds, fists clenched, forcing herself to speak. “Charlotte, if you’re short on cash, why not just ask your family? Why would you stoop so low as to hang around some sugar daddy for money? Doesn’t that kind of cash make your skin crawl?”
Sugar daddy? The second she said it, every sales associate in the store turned to stare at Charlotte. How could someone so pretty end up being someone’s kept woman? No wonder she could drop a fortune on a dress without blinking.
Charlotte’s eyes turned icy cold. She took two steps forward, grabbed Olivia by the throat, and stared her down, each word cutting like glass. “Say that again.”
Charlotte’s grip was so tight Olivia couldn’t get a word out. She just whimpered, struggling to breathe.
“Charlotte, what are you doing?” Steven and Elizabeth cried, panic all over their faces.
“Charlotte, calm down!” Shirley rushed over, totally lost on what Olivia had said to set Charlotte off. Charlotte really looked like she might snap and do something crazy.
Charlotte’s gaze was sharp as a knife. “If I hear you say ‘sugar daddy’ one more time… I’ll cut out your tongue and feed it to the dogs.”
She let go, tossing Olivia aside. Olivia gasped for air, clutching her chest, shaking with rage and fear.
“Charlotte, just wait a second…” Elizabeth helped Olivia up, trying her best to keep her voice gentle. “It’s not that Olivia won’t give you the dress. The designer specifically asked her to wear it for brand promotion.”
“You couldn’t buy it, even if you had all the money in the world.”
