The other teachers stayed silent, though their eyes gave away a hint of envy. This wasn’t just first place in the province, after all. It was first in the entire country. With the top spot going to Class A, Ashley was clearly the star of the show.

Eleanor’s face turned pale. “The scores aren’t even out yet. Charlotte might not drag down the average,” she said, voice cold.

Ashley gave a little laugh, clutching her thermos. “Anyone who can sleep through an English test isn’t going to score high, let’s be real. Eleanor, don’t get too confident. When those results come out, it won’t just be your reputation, it’ll be Vanguard High’s on the line.”

Ashley wasn’t done. “Charlotte was your choice to keep. So when things go wrong, you’ll have to answer for it.”
