Was this much drama really necessary? Was she Kenneth’s secret girlfriend or something?
They had barely reached the doorway when the director’s office opened and a group of people stepped out. Leading the way was a girl in a white T-shirt and skinny jeans, her short hair curled just so. Her eyes were big and sparkling, drawing everyone’s attention.
“Emily,” the assistant greeted politely.
Emily didn’t answer. Her gaze landed on Charlotte, and she froze for a second before her eyes widened in surprise. Wait, wasn’t this the girl who’d accidentally bumped into her at Kenneth’s place last time? She’d tried to track her down after that, but nothing had come up. Now, here she was, almost like fate had delivered her.
Emily bit her lip, studying Charlotte carefully. Her mood took a nosedive. Today, Charlotte was dressed even more casually than before, but somehow she looked even more put together. It was… kind of infuriating.
“This is the voice actress here to audition,” the assistant said, noticing Emily’s lingering stare and feeling a little awkward. “And this is Emily, our movie’s leading lady.”
Everyone in the company, except maybe Kenneth himself, knew Emily had a thing for him. And this girl clearly had some kind of connection to him too. Was this a showdown between rivals? The assistant, who knew the story behind the scenes, felt a little thrill at the tension.
Charlotte just lifted her gaze, her eyes impossibly beautiful as she met Emily’s stare with a calm, almost playful look.
Emily’s heart skipped a beat. Was Charlotte at Kenneth’s door last time to ask for help with this job? With looks like hers, she could probably outshine most actresses. For a split second, Emily thought that if this girl stood next to Kenneth, even he might fade into the background.
“Emily, we’re heading in,” someone said.
Emily nodded, then asked, “Did Timbre arrive yet?”
“Not yet,” the assistant replied after checking the time. “She was supposed to be here at ten-thirty. She’s probably still on her way.”
“Alright.” Emily sounded a little let down. She’d heard Timbre was going to voice her character and had waited at the company just to meet her, but still, no sign.
