Cyra
Twenty million dollars. My father sold me out for twenty million dollars.
“At least I’m not cheap,” I murmur.
I feel Piper’s arm come around me. “Try to eat something. You know Yorick will ask if you ate when you talk to him later,” she says softly.
I nod. I know he will.
“Hijack said he has some ideas and Yorick said he has some ideas too. Remember, you’re not alone anymore, Cyra. You have people who love you and people who are willing to fight for you,” Landon says.
“Apparently you have a lot of them. I don’t know how many people there are in Yorick’s family, but if Wendy is any indication, they are a passionate bunch,” Zach says.
I smile, thinking of Wendy’s commitment to fight for me. “That was very sweet of her, but I’m sure her parents wouldn’t let her fight in any kind of battle. She’s not eighteen yet,” I say.
“She’s an Alpha female and based on the little of her that I saw, she’s ripped. If she’s applying for the Academy next year, she’ll be a lot like Yorick, meaning she’s a strong fighter. You never know. My sister would kick my ass if I told her she couldn’t fight because she was underage,” Chase says, making me chuckle.
I get as much food down as I can and then I head back to my room. The moment I’m back I pick up the phone and video call Yorick.
He picks up immediately. “Hello, gorgeous.”
I feel tears begin to fall.
“I’m right here,” he says gently.
“I wish you were right here,” I say, my voice catching.
“Soon. Did you eat?”
“As much as I could.”
“So, I talked to my brother-in-law, Quirin.”
“What did he say?” I ask.
“That if I need twenty million dollars to get my mate out of an alliance bond, he’s happy to give it to me, but he’d rather just go kick some ass instead.”
I sit up.
“He’s happy to GIVE it to you?” I ask.
“Quirin’s filthy rich. I wouldn’t just take the money. I’d make sure he knew it was a loan that I intend to pay it back, but yeah, he has it to give and if it means getting you out of that alliance bond, I’m willing to go in debt for the rest of my life to do it.”
“Yorick…” I begin.
“Don’t, Cyra. Don’t tell me I can’t do that for you. It would be worth every penny to have you by my side for the rest of my life. However, I think Quirin’s idea of taking the war to them is a much better idea. Connor and Henry are all for it too and unless Hijack comes up with something amazing, I don’t see how we’re not going to go to war.’
I sigh. I know there’s no talking Yorick out of this and in all honesty, I want out of this alliance bond. Knowing this was Stellan’s idea and that he’s found his fated mate but refuses to accept her because he wants to be Alpha is abhorrent to me.
Who doesn’t accept their goddess-given mate? Only someone who is unworthy of them.
I talk to Yorick for a couple of hours before I say goodnight. Then, I shower and get ready for bed, thinking about Stellan’s mate, Blaire. I should ask Piper tomorrow if she’s tried to reach out to her. I wonder what Stellan is telling her about the alliance bond. I wonder if he met her before or after he suggested taking me as a mate. After reading the alliance bond, the only thing my father insisted on was that my son take over the pack. I guess he didn’t care how Stellan impregnated me, whether it was mutual agreement or force, just as long as it was his grandson who took over.
I lay down in bed, pulling Yorick’s shirt to my nose, breathing in his scent. Any residual respect I had for my father is gone. I don’t necessarily want him dead, but I don’t think he should be running the pack any longer and I think HE should pay for his sins, not me.
And what the hell did my father do with twenty million dollars? He certainly didn’t put it into the pack. I think back to the years and years of him going out every night. He’s been out partying with all that stolen money and now he thinks I’m just going to pay off his debt for him. And I nearly did.
I toss and turn, unable to stop thinking and unable to fall asleep without Yorick beside me. I finally grab my phone and pull up our text messages.
Me: Are you awake by chance?
A moment later, my phone rings.
“Can’t sleep, baby?” I close my eyes. Even hearing his voice helps calm me.
“Not without you here with me,” I say. “You?”
“No. I miss burying my nose in your hair and smelling your earthy Oud scent,” he says. “But, I have a confession.”
“What’s that,” I ask, pulling his shirt to my nose and letting his voice and his scent relax me.
“I’m going to fight. I’m going to trust the people around me to stand beside me and behind me. I’m going to become the Alpha I was meant to be, not the Alpha my father thinks I am, and I’m going to do it with the sexiest fucking Alpha I’ve ever met at my side,” I say putting all of my conviction into my words.
He’s quiet a moment. “Well now you’ve got me so fucking turned on that I really wish I was there. Where did all this conviction come from?”
“I figure I have two choices, lay down and take what my father and Stellan decide to dish out to me, but if I did that, I wouldn’t be worthy of having a pack of my own. And I am worthy, even if my father doesn’t see it. So, I’m going to fight and take over as Alpha of my pack.”
“You’re damn right you are,” he says, making me smile.
“I love you and just in case you weren’t sure, you’re the sexiest fucking Alpha I’ve ever met that will be standing by my side when I claim my pack.”
“That’s good to know because if it was someone else, I’d have to kill them and take their place at your side where I belong. And I love you too, so fucking much it hurts Cyra.”
“Good. Now, while we wait to hear from the Tech Team, I’m going to start working with our group here. I think we still need Hijack and maybe Hacker, and I want to see if Piper has contacted Blaire, that’s Stellan’s fated mate, but I can start working on my side of things while you work on yours. We’ll stay in touch and keep each other informed every step of the way,” I say, hopping out of bed and pulling on my clothes when I see it’s time for breakfast.
I stop when Yorick chuckles in that sexy way that he has.
“What are you laughing at?” I ask.
“You, acting all Alpha. You sound like Connor.”
“That’s a good thing.”
“Yes it is, my beautiful Alpha. Go get breakfast, we’ll talk later. I love you.”
“I love you too,” I say before hanging up.
When I get to the dining hall, I meet up with my friends and we’ve just started talking when Hacker walks by, sliding a piece of paper in front of me before walking away.
Everyone looks at me as I open the note.
‘Get ready. Shit’s about go down.’
