The Queen Who Fights Back (by Lily Hastings) novel Chapter 76

Chapter 76

The man Harvey had been speaking with was a notorious figure in the shadowy underworld, someone whispered about in fearful tones. Yet, Harvey himself didn’t know the man’s real identity—only that he wielded immense power and influence. Their connection had been arranged through Arthur, a link in a dangerous chain.

This mysterious figure had made a tempting offer: once Harvey secured control over Blake Security Group, sold off its assets, and handed over the proceeds, he would elevate Harvey to the international stage with a significant operation. The promise was too alluring to ignore.

Harvey’s ambition was clear—he was determined to claim the position of head of the family, a stepping stone to global dominance. Nothing, he believed, could stand in his way.

But fate had other plans. His carefully laid schemes were shattered by Nova, a mere teenage girl. The idea was unbearable to him. He refused to accept defeat at her hands and had no intention of letting her slip away unharmed.

“I’ll call in the Bloodblade Mercenary Corps to handle her,” the man warned coldly over the phone. “Until then, stay put.”

That promise settled Harvey’s nerves. After ending the call, he retreated to a shadowed corner, eyes burning with fury as he stared at Nova, who was surrounded by a crowd.

A cruel smile twisted his lips. *Nova, don’t blame me for being merciless—you brought this on yourself. Unless you can stand toe-to-toe with the Bloodblade Mercenary Corps, you’re finished this time,* he thought darkly.

Meanwhile, Nova found herself encircled by Alfred and several other family members.

“Well done, you truly are a worthy successor,” Alfred declared with enthusiasm. “You are now the head of the Blake family!”

By tradition, the first to pass the grueling “Ultimate Test” was crowned head of the family.

A middle-aged woman stepped forward, beaming warmly. “Congratulations, Nova. I’m Grace Blake, Finley’s wife. We’re all counting on you. You’re exceptional—our family is truly brimming with talent.”

Another voice chimed in, admiration clear in the tone. “Honestly, Charles isn’t a failure at all. Look at his daughter—she’s outstanding!”

The main family members gathered around Nova, their attitudes transformed. Before the test, many had looked down on her, dismissing her as insignificant. But now that she was the new family head, their futures hinged on her leadership. Their respect was palpable, though tinged with cautious hope.

In truth, Nova cared little for the title itself. What mattered to her were the assets of Blake Security Group. To her, financial strength was the truest form of security.

“Very well, I will take control of all the assets of Blake Security Group,” Nova said with calm certainty, meeting Alfred’s expectant gaze. This was the price she demanded for helping him secure the family headship.

Her words, delivered so evenly, stunned the main family members. They had anticipated a passionate declaration from a young leader—something inspiring like, “I will lead our family to greatness!” Instead, Nova’s focus circled back to money, over and over.

It was as if she viewed winning the “Ultimate Test,” a prestigious honor to others, as nothing more than a routine mercenary mission.

That was not something a typical young woman would say.

Alfred and several others exchanged stunned glances, puzzled by her cold pragmatism. *How deeply does she value money?* they wondered.

Only Charles felt a sharp pang of sorrow. He thought silently, *My daughter must have endured so much hardship during her years away that she now sees money as her only refuge.*

That thought weighed heavily on his heart, filling him with guilt. He vowed quietly, *From now on, I will do everything to protect her and make up for the pain she has suffered.*

Later, Arthur, Daniel, Finley, and the others emerged from the test site. When they learned Nova had become the new head of the Blake family, their expressions darkened.

Ivy looked at Nova in bewilderment. “How did she move so fast? Is she really some big name on the international scene, like you?”

“Well, I’m not cut out for running companies, so I’m counting on you, Dad,” Nova said with a gentle smile, looking every bit the ordinary teenage girl.

It was true she lacked experience in corporate management, but she owned Anoka Arsenal, a world-renowned arms manufacturer.

All the firearms, heavy weapons, military tanks, and rocket launchers used by the Bloodblade Mercenary Corps were produced by Anoka Arsenal.

Beyond supplying herself, global weapons sales brought her billions in annual revenue. But for now, she chose not to reveal that to Charles.

“Alright, good girl,” Charles said, deeply touched. His voice trembled with emotion. “Nova, I will do everything to make this company flourish for you.”

After two days at Blake Manor, Nova and the others had to return to school to resume their studies. Amid warm farewells from the Blake family, they departed Fergus.

Ghost-Hammer had already left, ending his brief respite as he boarded a flight for his next mission.

Everything seemed to settle back into normalcy.

That night, when Charles drove back to Blake Villa, the clock had already passed 8 p.m.

The darkness was deep and still, the car’s headlights cutting through the night to illuminate a familiar tall figure standing quietly at the villa’s entrance.

Nova’s eyes widened slightly as she recognized the man. It was Damien. He waited there, as if expecting her return.
