Ruby choked up. "Because I never told Casper when I gave birth. He doesn't even know we have a child."

Julia frowned. Could that really be true? She glanced at Gary, who looked just as uneasy.

"Alright. We'll respect your wishes," Gary said.

"That's great!" Ruby said, adding a few more pleasantries before hanging up.

Afterward, she bragged to her friends. "See? I knew they'd buy it."

Baffled, a short-haired woman asked, "How did you even pull that off?"

Ruby sneered. "They're just a couple of fools. They hate Jessica so much that they assume everything she does is wrong. Meanwhile, they're nicer to me. So when I lied and said the kid was Casper's, they just ate it up."

Her friend clicked her tongue, shaking her head. "But what if they find out the truth someday? Then what?"

Right now, Gary and Julia had pushed away their real daughter-in-law, Jessica, and their actual grandson, Cody, in favor of Ruby. In her friend's opinion, that wasn't going to end well for Ruby.

However, Ruby didn't seem worried. "I'll just make sure they never find out. It's not that big of a deal."

Her friend thought about warning her again but knew it wouldn't do any good. In the end, she kept quiet. Still, just in case things went south, she figured it was best to put some distance between herself and Ruby.

Julia was still conflicted. "Well…"

Gary couldn't stand Jessica. Talking to her always made him feel like it lowered his standing.

Julia called Jessica directly, saying, "Casper said he's coming home. He's also going to be with Ruby."
