The Rejected Mate (Elaine and Michael) novel Chapter 95

The room fell quiet, the air heavy with the scent of polished wood and burning incense. Outside, the sun was dipping below the treeline, casting long amber streaks across the floor. The light painted Darius’s face in gold and shadow, his expression unreadable as he gathered his thoughts.

Marcus and Evan waited in silence, while Blaine leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees the posture of an Alpha who had spent decades listening before judging.

Darius finally spoke. His tone was calm, but beneath it was a restrained fury – cold and simmering.

“When we arrived at Silverblade, everything was… uneventful,” he began. “Their Alpha, Michael, was polite on the surface, but I could feel it – he and Kathy are dying to asked about Elaine.”

Evan’s brows furrowed. Marcus stilled. Blaine’s expression hardened slightly, though he said nothing yet.

Darius continued to tell them what happened during his first week in Silverblade. The training with Michael’s warriors, containment of rogues, patrol schedules, and implementation of the new tracking system.

Darius continued, voice low and sharp. “Then came the mating ball. Roselyn saw Calvin and found out he was her mate. When she found out who he was, she thought rejecting him was the only way to make things right after what Silverblade did to Elaine years ago. That’s why

she wanted Roselyn to understand that she shouldn’t Elaine insisted on talking to her throw away her happiness because of what happened to her.”

“Roselyn listened. It took her time, but she finally decided to stay with Calvin. To give him and herself – a chance.” Darius’s lips curved faintly, pride softening his expression. “I saw the way he looked at her. He’ll protect her with his life. That was the one good thing that came from Silverblade.”

Blaine nodded slowly. “Then where does the problem lie?”

Darius’s golden eyes darkened. The calm broke.

“The problem,” he said, his voice dropping to a growl, “is Michael.”

The name itself carried venom.

“When we Elaine and Nathan arrived at Silverblade, Michael was there. Elaine and him found out that their fated mate bond was not completely severed. It was still there but faint. Michael called the council and asked for a meeting. Lucius informed him he and Elaine need to reject each other for the bond to break completely. That same day they rejected each other. But before the rejection, he had the audacity to claim Nathan

He said the boy was of his blood, that he wanted to meet Nathan.”

The room went still.

Blaine’s entire our son as his own.

Marcus’s eyes widened. Evan’s fists clenched by his sides. And Blaine presence changed. The quiet wisdom of the elder Alpha evaporated in an instant, replaced by the raw dominance of a wolf that ruled for decades.

“What?” His voice was low, deadly calm – the kind of tone that sent lesser wolves trembling. “He said that to your face?”

Darius nodded once. “He did. And if not for Elaine, he’d be dead by now.”

–the one buried under The muscles in Blaine’s jaw twitched. For a moment, the Alpha in him – years of restraint – threatened to surface. His wolf stirred, responding to the challenge even from afar.

When they left, the office fell silent again. The only sound was the faint crackle of the fireplace in the corner.

Blaine looked at his son – really looked at him and what he saw wasn’t the reckless warrior he’d once trained, but the Alpha who now carried the weight of a pack, a family, and a legacy.

“You’ve done well, Darius,” he said quietly. “Your mother would be proud of the man you’ve become.”

For the first time in hours, Darius allowed himself a small, weary smile.

“I learned from the best,” he said, glancing up at his father.

Blaine’s lips twitched into a faint smirk. “Then go. Be with your mate and your boy. You’ve carried enough for one day.”

As Darius stood and left the office, the corridor lights glowed soft and warm, leading him back to where Elaine and Nathan were waiting. From a distance, he could already hear their laughter – small, bright sounds that made every burden worth it.

He paused for a moment outside the door, watching through the crack as Elaine helped Nathan build a small wooden fortress on the rug.

Home.

Everything he’d fought for. Everything he would fight for again.

And as the last rays of sunlight faded from Crescent Moon, Alpha Darius silently swore – no one would ever threaten his family.
