The Rejected True Heiress (Liora) novel Chapter 127

Callum nodded, watching my hand on the pan. “Yeah, well, people don’t like change. Keep doing you. Just… be safe.”

Our gazes met—quick—and broke just as fast.

“So,” he nudged, “what’s your plan? After all this?”

I let out a short laugh. “What’s your plan, Mr. Engaged-to-the-Female-Alpha?”

His brow twitched, gaze shifting to the window. “Yeah, well. You know how that’s going to end.”

Whoops.

“Oh, right.” I leaned against the counter. “You’ll marry Bianca. Live happily ever after.”

He sighed, and for a second I almost felt bad. “Liora.”

“What?” I tilted my head, studying him. “It’s not like you get a say. I’m just stating facts.”

Something in his expression shifted—tired, maybe. For a moment, I pitied him. Just a little.

He nodded at my food. “You gonna share?”

I slid in front of the counter. “No.”

His mouth tipped into a challenge. “And you’re gonna stop me?”

I smirked. “Try me.”

“Please.” He leaned his hip against the counter, eyes flicking over me like he was already calculating. “You’ll never win with the moves I saw today.”

“That’s rich, coming from you, Mr. President.”

“Want me to prove it?” His tone was maddeningly calm, like he was suggesting a recipe instead of a fight.

I folded my arms. “In the middle of the mess hall?”

He glanced around at the empty tables. “Looks pretty empty to me.”

And that was how, five minutes later, my hood was tossed over a chair, his jacket folded neatly beside it, and we were facing each other under the dim light in the center of the room.

He rolled his shoulders, circling. “Alright, you’re too stiff. Loosen your stance.”

“Stop trying to sound like a coach,” I shot back, matching his steps, eyes locked on his.

“Stop standing like you’re posing for a portrait.”

I narrowed my eyes, dropping my weight a little. “Better?”

His lips quirked, but he didn’t answer—just moved closer, slow and deliberate, testing how near he could get before I flinched.
